So give Mr. Powell the maximum sentence on each charge he is convicted of and make them run consecutively.
His silence continues to speak volumes. So long as this guy remains in custody, that's exactly where he belongs.
No surprise.
No doubt Steve Powell is a sick, perverted man and deserves much responsibility for the deaths of Susan, Josh, Charlie and Braden.
I wonder if he abused his son?
Mr. Powell knows more than he will ever admit, and that says alot to the twisted mind he has. Makes me wonder if the law enforcement will place a "plant" in the cell with him, to get him to talk.
It's worth a shot, don't you think?
If anyone really believed now that Josh is gone that his lousy dad would voluntarily give any information to help close that story, I'd love to do your financial investing and can guarantee you monthly returns on your investments as high as 15%.
The only way to get any info out of that piece of garbage is to offer him plea deals and maybe lighten his sentence a little. There's no other way he'll offer anything up unless it is beneficial to him personally.
To Rifleman and So. Cal Reader
First and foremost, let me say that I have no use for Steve Powell. I've thought from the beginning of the Powell saga that he's scum, and nothing he has done since then has change my mind (except for the worse). I have always suspected him of having a role in Susan Powell's disappearance, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it is determined that he was the "doer" in her disappearance.
That being said, I refuse to condemn anyone for asserting his/her constitutional rights. Much as we may hold a particular person in contempt (like most people do for Steve Powell), the constitutional rights are there to protect us all and there should be no cherry-picking concerning who has the right to claim them, and no punishment should be levied for asserting them. I hope he rots. For every charge of which he is convicted, he should get the maximum (consecutive) sentence BUT he should not be sentenced because he claimed the constitutional rights we all enjoy.
A true coward. We know who committed the murder. What we do not know his how complicit Powell was with his son's crime. Obviously he know or he wouldn't plea the fifth. I say let him remain silent. The knowledge he's hiding and his guilt will eat at him and add to his misery. And even if he's able to bury the guilt and thoughts, a just God will more than revive them at the right time. What a sad commentary on a father/son relationship.
Too bad for him you don't "have the right to remain silent" when facing the real judge after death. A tiny particle of me thought that after the traumatic murders of his grandchildren he would come clean. No such luck.
If Steve Powell has any soul in him, I'm sure he's living in a horrible prison of his own making...and will for years and years.
His influence in the life of his own son and grandsons brought forth bitter fruit. I'm sure he is now aware of this and probably, in his own tortuous mind, knows he has blood on his hands.
Still trying to grapple with this whole story. I find peace in knowing those kids are now with their mother where no one can hurt them.
Washcomom,
That would be called entrapment I believe, and would be thrown out faster than you could shake a stick, as it should be. This isn't CSI or Law and Order. Half the stuff they do on those shows would be illegal if it were a real investigation.
RE: Furry1993-- "I refuse to condemn anyone for asserting his/her constitutional rights." I actually agree with you that he does, indeed, possess the constitutional right not to talk if he so chooses. What I'm saying, though, is why not speak if you know you don't have anything to hide? Of why not simply ensure his attorney is present when authorities want to question him, which is another consititutional right he's entitled to? That's why I'm saying his silence speaks volumes.
The audacity of Alina Powell wanting to bury her murderer brother's remains in the same cemetery 25 feet from his victims!
I'm surprised, given the level of abuse the Powells claim was directed toward Josh, that they'd be willing to have his burial place publicly advertised. I should think they'd be unwilling to risk having his gravesite vandalized. Repeatedly.
Yes, Steven and Josh's actions are evil and disturbing. I cried for those boys when I heard of the manner of their death. I went and clung to my little 5 year son and shuddered at the thought that these innocent children would be treated so cruelly. Now if I was the rest of the Powell family, I would NOT want to perpetuate the idea that all of us Powell's are creepy too by burying the evil, murdering father next to his innocent victims. What are they thinking?
Hmmm. Sounds like Buzz and co. from WV are no closer to getting any answers and are just as slow moving as they've ever been. I would suggest the people of WV vote these jokers out of office or whoever appointed them in the first place. And then there is the puzzling piece about not having enough computer expertise to find what Josh has hidden on his computer. The more I read, the more frustrated I get with the ineptitude of the police. Is anyone holding them accountable for their snails' pace??
Aggie238 - no, that would not be entrapment. Entrapment is inducing someone to commit a crime they would not otherwise commit. It is not inducing someone to confess to a crime they already committed.
OK..I thought just Josh Powell was wacky, but I now think the whole Family is disturb.
Dealing with steven powell will be a long drawn out and envolved process that will cost tax payers thousands of dollars that will be far more than the man is worth for his part in what has ended in a terrible tragedy. Right now the Cox family needs the closure and assurance that the loss of thier Grandchildren and a level of security to give them a peacful final resolution will of necessity be guarnateed. A court order is nedeed to prevent the forced indignity of any Powell family member's desires to assume that they have a right to encroach upon the sanctity and spiritual peace of the children, thier still missing mother and the present peace of mind of the living Parents and family of Susan Cox Powell. I hope that a court resolution to that effect can be speedily envoked and permanently maintained.

If that were the case, why would it be a right in the first place?
The fact is that when you're being investigated, for anything, chances are that the people investigating your case are not interested in trying to see if you're innocent or guilty. In their mind (and the mind of the public, for that matter) you're already guilty, and they simply have to get you convicted. If that means taking something you said, spinning it a certain way, finding an inconsistency to call your credibility into question, or even claim that you outright lied to them, they will do it.
Not to say I doubt that Steven Powell IS hiding something, but pleading the fifth is NOT the same as admitting to wrongdoing or having something to hide.
What ever happened to the potter's field concept for criminals and strangers? Surely Josh was strange enough and criminal enough to be considered for burial in such a place. If his remains are buried close to the little fellows' resting place, we can pretty much rest assured his immortal soul cannot touch them anymore, no matter what the proximity here on earth.
