    @Lanconic

    Thank you for your courageous words.

    Someone has to stand up for bigotry and discrimination!

    We must rally in support of the downtrodden majority!

    Nebraska voters passed a state constitutional amendment in 2000 banning same-sex marriages, civil unions or even legalized domestic partnerships, and it has withstood all legal challenges.

    So this too will fall when They rule in the Utah Case, since it's the same all or nothing argument.

    "SSM advocates are often heavy-handed and try to intimidate those who don't share their same beliefs."

    As opposed to the site that seeks to institute bans on same-sex marriage? Talk about heavy-handedness...

    You evade Tolstoy's point. You originally set up a scenario where a non-blood-related grandmother could marry her granddaughter. Tolstoy wonders what makes that exclusive to same-sex marriage?

    But I understand why you didn't address that. Because you have no argument. All you can do is point to bogeymen: Incest! Polygamy! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

    "Why not ban all marriages?"

    If you want to do that, I recommend that you start a petition. I won't be signing it, however.

    @Tolstoy:
    "and your little scenario would be any different if it were a mother and a son how exactly?"

    Try a mother and two sons. And, maybe throw in a daughter for good measure.

    "this argument on (sic) holds water if you then purpose we also ban heterosexual marriage."

    Why not ban all marriages?

    @the greater truth
    there is no evidence that children by same sex couples suffer any harm and repeating unsupported claims that it hurst society is not showing evidence to support such claims.

    @Utefan60

    It doesn't hurt individuals or other marriages, except children forced into such a relationship by adoption, it hurts society in general, and it probably hurts those involved though they will never admit the truth...

    @Understands Math

    Marriage equality is neither pro-family or pro-marriage. It is selfish and it mocks true marriage. What they want are the legal rights that come with marriage. Next they will want those rights without marriage. In fact a gay advocate spoke to large group saying the real truth is they do not really want marriage, they want do away with institution of marriage.

    What harm does any LBGT marriage do to supposed "traditional marriage" I just can't see how this type of marriage will hurt anyone. It does however benefit the family structure and children of those families. I felt sorry for the families in the article. It is simple bigotry and hatred that the State of Nebraska is defending.

    We are seeing how religion in the middle east is taking the rights and lives of so many people. So much hatred and intolerance in this world and in our own country is based on religious bias.

    @MtnDewer:
    "The mother and child will not receive any SS benefits...from the departed partner, since the child could not be adopted by the partner... No harm done, right?"

    Let's change the scenario... a 95 year old lesbian grandmother wants to marry her 21 year old (adopted) lesbian granddaughter. The grandmother is on her death bed and wants to pass her SS benefits to her poor 21 year old granddaughter. They are married. A month later the grandmother dies. No harm done, right?

    "A simple marriage license would alleviate all these problems."

    A simple heterosexual marriage would also alleviate the problem as well.

    @USU-Logan:
    "SSM and interracial marriage are two different issues, but share many similarities. In the past, they were both banned by law, rejected by general public..."

    Did you mean to include polygamy, incest, and siblings in your list of rejected marriages?

    "Do you know just in the past 2 years, the number of marriage equality states has jumped from 6 to 19, and still counting?"

    Did you know that in the past year or so, two states have legalized Marijuana, and more are sure to follow?

    Once again you are the one advocating taking away others rights making you the argressor not the victim, claiming premetive victim does not change the facts.

    Really? Funny, I don't see it that way.

    If you read the article you would see that the underdog are the LGBT couples who are being discriminated. The heavy handed seems to be the State of Nebraska.

    One of my favorite movies is: "The Dark Crystal" is a children movie in which the villains are very afraid of their victims. Your comment reminded me of that movie.

    Good for Nebraska. Hang in there and don't be bullied into giving up your beliefs and values, as has happened in so many other states. SSM advocates are often heavy-handed and try to intimidate those who don't share their same beliefs. It's those types of tactics that I find reprehensible and appalling.

    And I have no doubt some of them will jump on my case for saying even this much. Diversity of opinion is usually unacceptable to the far left. Heavy handed criticism usually comes quickly.

    The marriage equality movement is pro-family and pro-marriage. This article is a perfect example of why same-sex couples need marriage to protect their families.
