The laws which allow this must be changed.
The abusive lack of enforcement of these excessively permissive laws is an even worse situation.

The net result is, that we have essentially NO immigration laws, no borders, and thus have tacitly agreed that the rule of law based on truth and justice and obedience is no longer expected of anyone here, legally, or otherwise.

The Obama administration's very long list of failings, will surely be recorded by historians with their destruction of our borders and legal immigration processes near the very top of that list in terms of damage to our country.

This is not about kids fleeing violence in their countries, it is about the criminal act of illegally entering our country, and the willing accomplices who tolerate it.

Disgusting!

The misunderstanding and misapplication of our existing immigration laws is the true crisis.
America can't take every person in the world who comes from a country where life isn't as good as it is in the United States. We don't have the resources. As such, trying to do so is gradually but surely diluting our standard of living.

Taking care of all these people who just keep coming, with no end in sight, has no means of being paid for except by by having U.S. citizens add to our already out of control federal budget deficit. We're being asked to add the huge costs of taking care of the illegals to our federal credit card... payments to which will dilute our existing standard of living.

I know of no other country in the world which has such loose applications of their border laws as what we currently have. Sadly, it's almost as if we don't have any borders. Even worse, we automatically give unlimited welfare to any of these people rather than sending them back to their home countries. This will catch up to us with a high price to be paid.

"Only recently have officials acknowledged that perceptions that these children may be allowed to stay or that Congress soon may relax U.S. immigration laws — which is highly unlikely — may also be responsible."

So we finally admit the real problem is promise of amnesty. This takes the discussion away from uniting families. Amnesty is causing more family separation.

The massive dishonesty in the illegal immigration debate has just blown up in the pro-illegal face.

We need massive changes in enforcement, and amnesty is dead. When the Vice President has to go to other countries, and tell them not to send their children here, you know it's gone to far. It's not fear or hunger, that's propaganda, it's the promise of not being deported.

@Brio:
"The misunderstanding and misapplication of our existing immigration laws is the true crisis."

Keep this in mind... Obama is allowing this unprecedented illegal immigration to occur in order to build the Democrat voter base. Obviously, illegal immigrants will vote for the party that lets them in with little or no consequences. And don't make the mistake of thinking they can't vote since they're not citizens. The Democrats have that base covered too. They are pushing hard against voter ID requirements. They are working toward allowing people to walk up to a voting poll unidentified, and vote.

"America can't take every person in the world who comes from a country where life isn't as good as it is in the United States."

The Democrats, lead by Barack Hussein Obama, couldn't care less. Their objective is to get as many supporters in this country that they can while to getting is good. The millions of immigrants (legal and otherwise) will assure Democrats the White House, and possibly the Senate for years to come.

What needs to be done is to put these kids on a military transport plane, give them a sack lunch, and send them back to the country of origin. That is the most humane, and cheapest, treatment.

And, to solve the immigration problem, we should put a certain politician on the plane as well. Roll to a stop on the tarmac someplace in Central America, open the door, let him out, the take off. Problem solved.
