And we are to assume that the Russians are doing the same? Funny time for President Obama to be trusting Putin.

Only 400 what on earth will you do! How many times would you be able to wipe out mankind with only 400?

Rather odd for a Brit to lament the US military having all the might they need since it was the US military that saved England and most of Europe from being taken over by Germans twice in one century, isn't it?

@Thid Barker

If I remember my history correctly, England was about the ONLY country in all of Europe that was never taken over by the Germans. Not for one day were they under German control in either war. If you don't remember, I'd recommend you study up on the Battle of Britain.

...and what did missile silos and nuclear weapons have to do with England, Europe, and WWI or WWII?

This country continues weaken (decay).

Many countries will lose their freedoms.

Putin smiles at our gullible, and weak leadership.

I see history isn't a strong point. The US turned up for the last year of WW1 and made up 1% of the casualties in the war. Sped things up a bit maybe but hardly a huge impact. Canada did far more than the US in WW1.

In WW2 again you turned up late, but it was the Russians that defeated the nazis make no mistake. Without Russia D-day would have meant the allies would have faced 1.5 million extra combat veterans, no air superiority and thousands of extra tanks. In other words it wouldn't have happened. Before you talk about lend-lease, the German lines were broken before the majority of the equipment got there.
I will grant you that the US stopped a possible push by Stalin further west at the end of the war but the defeat of the Nazis rests firmly on the Soviet unions shoulders.

Oh and hearing mewling about only having 400 nukes is laughable. Especially coming from conservatives who say they want fiscal responsibility.

Britain dodged the German speaking thing because of America. Do they like Russian better?

Uh oh. We'll have only 400 missiles with 10 warheads each. That means we can destroy 4,000 Russian cities (if there were 4,000 Russian cities worth destroying). Since there are only about 160 valuable targets in Russia, we will have barely enough firepower to bounce the rubble in each place only 25 times! That's unacceptable!

Ironically it would be the US speaking German if it wasn't for the Brits.

Also I think it was the brave pilots who fought in the battle of Britain that stopped the Nazi invasion (although they wouldn't have been able to do it anyway because of operation barbarossa).

No Russia stopped the German speaking thing, did you not read what I wrote above? Again I said that the US stopped a possible push further west by Stalin, maybe he would have, maybe he wouldnt, but the Nazi regime was finished as soon as the first German soldier stepped on Russian soil. We needed them, they didnt need us. Granted the western front sped up the war, but the Soviet Union was the equivalent of a tsunami. They were not going to be stopped getting ton Germany.

I find a lot of people in the US seem to get their education about WW2 from Hollywood films. It would help a lot if you started cracking open some history books instead.

Yes, UT Brit, and the French think Charles DeGaulle liberated France. LOL

Spent quite a bit of time in France and they think nothing of the sort. I travelled around Normandy last year looking at the WW2 sites. Almost every small village you drive through has the stars and stripes flying and a memorial to the troops.

Again I think you need to stop watching hollywood and read a book. You will be surprised at what you discover.

True, however, England was receiving LOTS of assistance in terms of material, weapons and money from the U.S. long before America was drug into WWII on December 7th 1941. And, yes, I am very familiar with the Battle of Britain.

What? That is way, way over the top.

I'm not saying that without America that England 'would' have been over-run/taken over by Germany, but you are apparently claiming that without England that America would have been taken over by Germany?

Sorry, but the reality is you guys were in much more of a dire situation than the U.S. Hitler was at one point only 13 miles away from you (the English Channel) but he'd have to swim 3,000 miles to get to New York.

Furthermore, I would contend that without American air power in Europe, both from bases in England and, later on, Italy, it may not have been possible for either England OR Russia to have defeated Germany.

@Irony Guy,

Hate to burst your bubble regarding the 400 Minuteman Missiles, but they only have one warhead (Re-entry Vehicle) for each missile – not 10 warheads as you incorrectly stated.

Limiting nuclear arsenals is the strategic variant of gun control; the only people who will obey restrictions are the very people who should have the weapons in the first place, because of the other guys.
