These numbers are worthless and inaccurate because they do not include the millions of new part time workers (Obamacare victims) or millions of others who have stopped looking for work because they can not find a job! It's true that the number the government reports have always been calculated that way but they are worthless measurements because of the massive increases in these people not counted.

It could have something to do with the republicans shutting down the government and scaring businesses.

What a croc they didn't even mention it in the article. The government shuts down and almost defaults yet has no bearing on the economy? Ya right.

you mean when BO and harry shut down the government to protect the trainwreck knowns as obamacare? the GOP passed legislation to keep the government open - harry would not call a vote on it and BO threatened to veto it. harry and BO shut down the government.

no need to default on the debt - plenty of revenue to meet debt service requirements. What a croc that you would ignore that completely. perhaps you have no paycheck and therefore would not see that they continued to withhold federal income and other taxes even when BO and harry shut down the government.

redshirt007,
these are sept numbers...shutdown began oct 1st. But, nice try. This economy has been skipping along the bottom for years.

Yes, the numbers are from the month previous to the 16 day shutdown. But even Obamas chairman of economic advisors is trying to sell that it is because of the shutdown. That in and of itself should tell everyone that the chairman of economic advisors is a politician first and an economist second, if at all. So now I know not to believe anything he says, as it will have about as much truth as something Jay Carney says. All I can say about this whole economic mess is that if it were McCain in the White House presiding over it since 2008, he never would have been re-elected President on the basis of a bad economy alone. And now we are in our 5th year of Obamanomics. Of course all this is Bushs fault, until the moment it turns around, (if it ever does), then it will be Obamas brilliant 5, 6, 7, or 8 year plan finally coming into fruition. Can't wait!!
