The United States has been sternly warning Iran for years about the negative consequences of continuing to develop a nuclear program that could eventually build nuclear weapons. That warning has consistently included stepped up sanctions against Iran whenever they fail to heed warnings. We should not start listening to Iran's contrary warnings to us at this point. Most of the Middle East and all Muslim dominated countries would see it as weakness on our part.

The obvious fact is that Iran sponsors more terrorism than perhaps any other country in the world. As such, it would be a grave mistake to allow them to actually develop and have nuclear weapons in their possession. What little balance there currently is in the Middle East would be completely gone and chaos would reign. Especially given the fact that Iran has publicly called for the extinction of Israel, who is our staunchest ally in that area. Iran also often refers to the USA as "The Great Satan". As such, we need to stand firm against their continuing nuclear program and step up pressures... not start decreasing them.
