The first paragraph says that federal investigators dismissed the fact that this guy lied about his arrest records and debts. Too me that means that this guy was given some kind of special treatment for some reason, which I won't speculate on now. However, the investigators who allowed this person to have a clearance failed at their job, and are partly culpable for the ensuing deaths on the Naval Base and the building where the shooter should have never had access in the first place.

Why in the world would federal investigators purposely omit pertinent information from an important application background check for security purposes?
And why would people in the Office of Personnel Management change language in an arrest record to downgrade the significance of it?
I can't think of even one valid reason. Are they trying to prove to themselves they're not racist by letting this information slip through the cracks on this particular guy? I have no idea. But this particular case looks either very suspicious or terribly incompetent.

This gun free zone was the perfect target for a crazy liberal who voted for Obama to unleash carnage! It is because of these liberals and all of their Banning gun talk that these people are dead! Banning guns is akin to Obama banning food for all because Michelle has gained weight since she took over the healthy food program for schoolers! Now that is some crazy logic coming from the dopes for hope!

Like you Tators I was wondering just how this shooter could have gotten any security clearance. Either the investigators didn't do their job, or they passed him in spite of many "red flags" in his record. Now we have to ask ourselves WHY???

It is shocking that a criminal who killed 12 people would lie...

What's hard to believe is that after Ft Hood any such military attack could have ever made it through the door.

Wait a minute! Aren't there laws against this? Oh, wait, I forgot, criminals don't obey the law.

Integrity is not in the contractor's Statement of Work. It is ensuring that the various aspects of diversity are addressed not that the individual will have access to classified material in his job. Some people take months to get a clearance from the same contractors for the Office of Personnel Management that oversee the system and process. The OPM is ineffective itself their whole process of hiring and overseeing complaints and those type of personnel actions.

They should be the top of the HR world but are not due to all the restraints, constraints and impediments built into their system of Personnel Management that impacts almost every agency and department within the federal government.

They have a President who has taken advantage of the system and they believe they can act as he does. Does the truth ever surface when diversity in the workforce is the goal without limitations on credibility of employees and contractors?

OPM is the one that should be monitored as it's process has been broken since 2009 in January, me or less.

This shooter was in the Navy and probably has his medals on his resume to show how great he was. Security is vital.

WHAT!!! People lie when they fill out forms?? Who would have ever expected that?

So much for expecting the BCI, or a phone call, or a government form to keep mentally unstable people from getting guns.

Hello People... the GOVERNMENT doesn't know if we are mentally stable or not (even if we fill out a form). But your family should know!

I say we stick with background checks (they may work SOME of the time). But instead of trusting that the phone call, or the form, or the government official on the other side of the phone or the form will be able to figure out if you can have a gun or not.... I suggest we watch the mental and emotional state of members of our family. And even if they were stable before and got a gun at one time... don't let them have access to ANY weapons if you think they may be a danger!

Most of the shooters didn't have their own gun. They stole it from parents, friends, etc, or somehow got past the background check. Background checks alone DON'T WORK. We should have learned this by now!
