"You folks need to put your partisan nonsense behind you and become Americans."

Great, somebody else who knows more than anyone else.

Give it up, Maverick. I served during a very unpopular war and, among other things, learned that NOBODY likes to be lectured about the evils of lecturing each other.

Maverick. Calling people with whom you disagree insane isn't very rational nor is it productive. Obama inserted himself into racial politics and increased the racial tension instead of healing our nation. Obama became just another race hustler like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson when he should have been a leader. How can we come together when our "leader" continually is taking racial jabs at his own country? Obama never had to fight for our country, did he?

    You folks are insane.

13 Americans are killed in a domestic terrorist act and all you folks can think about is blaming the NRA, Obama, and Trayvon Martin?

It's really time for our Democracy to come together. You folks need to put your partisan nonsense behind you and become Americans. Stop trying to take jabs when we should be unifying and serving those whose families will never be the same.

The time is long past to re-institute the draft. Too many folks here have no concept of life and death and patriotism. Patriotism isn't writing cheap attacks on our President on the Internet.

Maybe if you folks actually had to fight for your country you'd understand that.

    Need more guns.

Osgrath. I second your comments. I am not anti-gun. I just wonder where we draw the line. There are times I feel like the gun lobby considers these mass shootings nothing more than collateral damage. Can't we at least implement more thorough background checks on all gun buyers. If criminals are determined to obtain firearms can't we at least attempt to make it more difficult.

The freedoms that allow people to do great things are often the same freedoms that a few use to do horrible things. Lets wait for a few more facts to come out before we try and jump on any bandwagons.

The reason this has "morphed" into an attack on the president is because he inserted himself into the line of fire. Nobody asked him to do it. He could have steered clear. But he didn't. Instead he chose to politicize the issue after Sandy Hook, and he did it again during the Zimmerman trial. He has taken the old political adage "never let a good tragedy go to waste" to a whole new level.

If you don't want the president attacked when things like this happen, tell him to stay off the battlefield.

Remember, concealed weapon permit holders are prohibited from carrying their guns on any military base, or even keeping them in their car.

We trust military personnel with loaded guns in combat zones, and many are entrusted with nuclear weapons, or other highly dangerous and very expensive devices. But, some people decided that we can NOT entrust them with a legally carried self defense weapon on a military base, not even allowing the option of a local base commander to authorize even selected personnel to carry.

So, criminals ignore laws about having illegal guns on military bases (and lots of other places- Trolley Square had a "no guns" sign...) and the laws against murder, and commit their deadly deeds in areas filled with disarmed victims. Victims who obeyed the law, while the criminals prove again that they do not obey any laws.

    End ALL victim disarmament zones!

A bad guy with a gun is only stopped by a good guy with a gun, and we should not have to wait, not even seven minutes, for one to show up.

How a tragedy like this can morph into an attack on the president is almost depressing. Some people are so single minded in their hatred of a particular man that they allow that man to haunt their thoughts. Also, despite what they claimed here, the President did directly address the matter.

Mind you, I am not an Obama apologist. I voted for the other candidate. But I also respect the dignity of the office, and all this mindless rancor and antipathy is tearing our democratic republican system more than the actions of any one individual ever could. Please get over it. The President is not attempting to overthrow our system (and with checks an balances, I doubt he ever could unless we all allow it); I don't agree with all his policies and decisions, but I do think he is doing what he thinks is best.

Meanwhile, those of us who disagree with his philosophies will get much further by engaging in productive debate, not emotional reactive venom.

13 people are dead and the first thing you guys do is look forward to how it can make Obama look bad.

    Stay classy, Utah.

Now, as we're told time and again, is not the time to talk about gun control. These things happen often enough that it never seems to be that time. Yet every time someone gets killed by someone who was drinking, it's time to 'clamp down'. Stricter laws. More enforcement. What a bunch of bullpucky we get fed.

    Chris B:

I'm sure we'll hear O talk about how if 'he had a son he would look like' Aaron Alexis very soon...

I know you and your fellow libs want everyone's guns but think of it this way: taking away everyone's guns because someone decides to harm others with a gun would be akin to taking away everyone's ability to post on this story simply because you made a silly comment.

So is this what slavish deference to the second amendment has finally wrought? Is this what happens when NRA obstruction of even the most innocuous common sense rules dealing with the spread of lethal weapons, wins the day

The dead shooter was black, no known motivation! If all the people he killed were white only, consider it a racial strike....worse than Trayvon! If he was muslim......its obviously like Ft hood! But most likely he was mentally ill, like Columbine, Sandy Hook, Colorado Theatre, and all the rest! t one thing is clear, the President will steer clear of watch!

    What's wrong with people?
That's a long answer. But for now, lets make sure next time the guards on the base are fully loaded to handle these issues.
