Nice effort to distort the truth regarding firefighting.

Firefighting today is not what it was 30 or more years ago. Back then, forest fires were put out. Bombers used retardant and firefighters actually worked to get the flames out.

However, environmentalists pointed out that by putting out fires, an enormous amount of deadwood (fuel) was building up in the forests that, according to them, needed to be burnt. That belief propelled a change in firefighting procedures.

Since then, firefighting has been more an effort on containment...to a certain degree. Fires are allowed to burn in order to consume deadwood. Retardants are rarely used because of their environmental impact. And water doesn't do a lot of good when it's dropped in small buckets.

The irony is that environmentalists for years fought the cutting down of trees, but they have no opposition to forest fires.

And as a result, our land is greatly scarred and resources are destroyed. So much for trees being the answer.
