The history of the region is replete with countless failed examples of outsiders stepping in to change governments.
Can we start with Julius Caesar in Egypt, and end with George W Bush in Iraq? The Americans, British, French, Italians, Germans, and so many more keep messing in the region. President Obama is smart to know he cannot create Egypt's government. The issue of "calling it a coup, causing aid to be suspended" is complicated: the Russians, Iranians, and Chinese would be on Egypt's doorstep in 2 minutes if we stop the aid.
