There are 6 million Mormons in the USA and approximately the same number of Muslims.
I'm waiting for a White House dinner honoring Pioneer Day. (Even a visit to Utah would be a nice gesture. We're at the end of his list of 57 states so it may take awhile.)
Seriously, what is with this president and his theological affirmative action?

Why is Obama hesitant with admitting he's Muslim?

What a sad commentary on America that even when the President offers a gesture of good will it provides an opening for some sour and bitter detractors to gripe and moan.

Craig Clark--"some sour and bitter detractors to gripe and moan."?

Where did you find this?

Answer to worf's last question: in plenty of posts on this site - and leave it at that. As to why Muslims get a holiday recognized at the White House and Mormons don't, it might be because the world has about 1 billion Muslims, with Mormons well short of that.

worf must be the last possible person anywhere to contend that Obama is a Muslim. In fact, nothing in the Constitution or law anywhere precludes a Muslim from holding ANY political office. But just as a reminder, the whole Obama family was in church on Easter. Yes, a Christian church, within a couple of blocks from the White House.

@Mark
Hey, it was a nice day and the church was within walking distance. It made a nice photo op.
Besides, the preacher took a good swipe at the religious right in his sermons.
It's tough to call Obama a Christian when he favors abortion, abortion pills and gays.
Did I mention he's not keen on soldiers having religious discussions among themselves?
I'd say the president has sort of a political brand of religion

"Why is Obama hesitant with admitting he's Muslim?"

I'd like to know how Obama is simultaneously a Muslim and a black liberation theologist (and also an atheist which some others claim).

If we assume every single non-Christian in the US is pro-choice and for same-sex marriage that still leaves roughly 1/3 of Christians in this nation as pro-choice and 1/3 (and growing) of Christians supporting same-sex marriage. Not exactly all that rare a belief.

Look at his behavior-not words. Grew up in a Muslim school.

Obama has proven on many occasions, that his words are not true.

The president owes me no explanations about his religion, and none would be adequate for Say No. Happy Ramadan.

"Grew up in a Muslim school."

Heh, so? My dad grew up in a Catholic school, he's an atheist now. You say to look at his behavior and ignore all the time he's spent at Christian churches. Hey maybe he's Jewish, after all they've had White House events for Jewish holidays too.

Whoaa! Hold your horses.
President Obama HAS hosted Mormons in the White House--multiple times. He hosted President Monson and Elder Oaks. He also hosted a group of young Mormons that was reported on in the bloggernacle. Members of the 12 were also guests at both his inaugurations and he invited President Uchtdorff to come and discuss immigration policy.

As for the President's faith: well documented Christian! Let the doubters re-watch the Charlie Rose interview. When asked how he made the decision to send in the Seals instead of cruise missiles to get Bin Laden he replied: "A whole lotta prayer".

If all you do is get your news from Matt Drudge or Glenn Beck then yes, you might live in a lonely, ugly world where you think everything is a conspiracy against you and that preachers at the National Cathedral are actually taking swipes against the religious right (laughable). But if you will stick with the regular news (this site is not too bad) you might learn that all of the Presidents of our lifetimes have been men of sound Christian faith and this country is blessed by God and not the rotten place you think it is.

I would add to Worf: the canard about President Obama attending a Madrassa was debunked eons ago. That rumor was used against him by other Dems during the 08 primaries but was proven false. Besides, even if it were true, why wouldn't we take a man's word about his religion? How many Protestants have attended a Catholic school and we never made an issue of it.

Has anyone else noticed how few times in the past, oh say 8 months or so (since November of 2012)the Obamas have been seen attending a church (any church)? Gosh. Last summer, at this time, they were being photographed almost weekly attending one church or another. Ya know, kind of like the Romneys. I wonder what's changed....

Oh, Democrat… the rose-colored glasses some people choose to look through.

You remind me of some of my relatives in Nazi-occupied Denmark: “Don’t worry, everything will be fine. Hitler just wants to improve things for everybody,” they claimed. “You say there’s talk of rounding up the Jews here in Denmark. Don’t be silly -- That could never happen here!” they insisted.

How about sizing up people by what they actually do rather than what you think they do? Ask yourself who actually believes the Bible’s teachings, yet still supports abortion, large scale welfare and socialism; all blights on a country supposedly today still “blessed by God”. Ask yourself which party voted to remove God from their national platform.
And, lastly, you cannot make statements like “punished with a child” and “abortions help fulfill dreams”, like he has, and be a person of faith. Let’s size him up by what he actually does versus who we want him to be.

Obama also hosts Passover seders every year, and he was in fact the first president to ever do so.

Are you going to accuse him of being Jewish now?

LasVegasPam:
Yes there are Rose Colored glasses and then there are those who see a cloud in front of every silver lining. President Obama is not perfect and I don't agree with him on everything. But there is a line coming from right-wing media that insists he is some evil-Charlatan (see your own Hitler comparisons). Far lefty's said the same things about Reagan and the Bushes but this stuff is all hyberbole used to win elections and sell radio advertising. For example, I heard people say Clinton was going to lead us down the road of Communism and take our guns but that never happened either.

Also, the Democrats didn't "remove God" from their platform. Check it your self--He is still there.

I know it. I Live it. I Love it.

There are a lot of useless criticisms of each other on here. However, none of them negated the logic of the first comment.

To profess tolerance, and practically demand great lengths of respect be shown to the Muslim world is very ironic and is inconsistent.

Members of the LDS Church don't believe in recognizing gay marriage, but we do believe in being respectful, etc. Muslims are far more at odds with liberal views on nearly all points of policy. Some Muslim countries are very violent against gays as a general practice.

Yet many still cater to their "pretend tolerance" for the sake of political popularity and feeling "good inside".

I'm not saying tolerance is bad. I'm not saying anyone is wrong for showing tolerance of Muslims or any religion. I'm only saying that the right thing to do is show true tolerance for other beliefs, not cater to popular demand.

He can start any time now. Many of us are waiting.

This is not the Daily Mormon. Why does every article about Obama turn into a fist fight with Liberals vs. Mormons? Why can't we talk about what this really is, and not describe those with radical or anti Liberal feelings as "Mormons".

Larceny,

You would understand this nonsense if you lived in Utah.
