Helicopter lands in NYC's Hudson River; all safe

    One of the biggest advantages of rotary versus fixed-wing aircraft is the ability to use the momentum of the rotating wings that can be built up as the rotor acts as a brake during unpowered descent and, if they are able gain enough angular velocity during the descent, actually be flared at the right moment to stop the descent at the point of landing.

    Of course, it requires a skilled pilot to do this and I'm very glad to see there was one on this flight.
