Other Possible Motivations

Listening to NPR one afternoon, the Diane Reams show, a former employee of the IRS called in and explained why right wing groups were probably targeted for added scrutiny. These groups have a history of protesting in taxes and their members of frequently not filing or paying their taxes. This is why the extra scrutiny.

The Tea Party has named itself after a group who's very existence was to protest taxes. Given all this it doesn't necessarily follow that the extra scrutiny given to the right groups by the IRS was politically motivated. They didn't trust these groups and in their mind were trying to prevent further fraud. All this according to the caller.

Great article Dr. Krauthammer, as usual! Bad customer service is one thing but when only conservative customers receive "bad service" (pitiful excuse by the way) its the worst kind of government corruption possible! Similar to the infamous gestapo and their treatment of their political enemies in Nazi Germany. History repeating itself, right here in the USA and look at who is in charge this time and who is attempting to pass this off as "bad customer service"!

There's no failure from the IRS. They investigated applications for tax exempt status with names that sounded political which meant they were not eligible for tax exempt status.

When some of the big criminals were able to insulate them selves from the laws of the United States, it was the IRS who put them in prison.

Every agency of the government is in fact a law enforcement agency charged with the responsibility of supporting the American Constitution by enforcing the laws of America.

When there are people or groups of people who are at stark disagreement with those laws it is the shared responsibility and duty of every agency to scrutinize and expose those groups and determine who they are and who they represent.

Anti-American groups must not be allowed to pose as concerned Americans who support America but see problems needing correction.

The real scandal is not that the IRS targeted conservative groups for careful scrutinizing, but rather that the IRS didn't also target ALL other groups for careful scrutinizing. In my opinion, any and every group that applies for tax exempt status should receive very thorough background checks to protect against tax fraud and abuse.

@cjb:

Why don't we let the IRS explain why they have targeted conservatives. So far, they haven't. All they've done is hemmed and hawed. And by the way, conservatives are more likely to pay their taxes than left wingers.

"The Tea Party has named itself after a group who's very existence was to protest taxes."

They protested unfair taxes... something to do with unfairness and taxation without representation.

"All this according to the caller."

According to a left wing caller, no doubt. Obama and some of his lackeys likely put him up to it.

Merich39.

The difference between a machine and a human being is that the human can think.

If you have a pimple on your cheek and a broken arm, which do you thing your doctor will give the most attention to.

If a group of people under the name of government rebels and with open threats to diminish our nation government and reduce it’s control over our nation (in favor of 50 odd nation states eager to control people), is asking for tax exemption along with a group called Mothers Against Drunk Driving, do you really think both groups should receive the same amount of scrutiny?

Do you really think that the IRS is not trying to do the best job it can in the overall job of protecting America.

OK, so what group scrutinizes Obama for failure to enforce the immigration laws, huh? Don't bother to answer. We know who it is... the Obama appointed Attorney General, Eric Holder.

What do you call it when a leader refuses to enforce the laws of the land? Ans: autarchy/autocracy and the like.

@CJB,,,
And how do you explain the other groups they targeted such as Billy Graham and other religious groups? The rule is very clear,,, don't oppose King Obama in any way, shape, or form. This case is about as clear as it can be and it goes straight to the top, just wait and see.

The thing that worries me most is that this same IRS and some of the same people will now be involved with not only our money but our health care.

In response to Ultra Bob, no I don't think the IRS is necessarily doing what is good for America, I think when a government agency gets too big, it usually ends up serving it's own interests first. For example, many on the liberal side will talk about the "Military Industrial Complex." Well what about the "Government Industrial Complex"? They are bigger and spend a lot more of our money than the military. And the IRS is their collection agency.

"The thing that worries me most is that this same IRS and some of the same people will now be involved with not only our money but our health care. "

First off, obamacare is hardly Making the government in charge of health care.

furthermore, I'd rather have the government in charge of our health care than the Koch bros and Wall Street bankers who were so greedy that they needed a $900 billion dollar bailout. I trust the folks in charge of maintaining our freedom and democracy with our military than folks who give themselves bonuses for cutting coverage and treatment to sick people.

Talk about red tape, bureaucracy and death panels! Sheesh!

OK Real Maverick, where do I begin. If you remember, death panels was never a concern of Americans until Obamacare came about and people realized that there would likely be rationing of health care for budget reasons. And red tape and bureaucracy? Those are hallmarks of the Federal Government. Believe me, as I've lived in socialised medicine countries, namely England, I know how people began to get less medicine the older they got. And government said so, not Blue Cross. And as I have a sister who is in her 70s is already getting less now, when supposedly Obamacare has not even been fully implimented. As for greed. Tell me what has caused the Federal Government to run up 17 trillion in debt? Good business management? Good business management is what people like the Koch Brothers and many others have used to build American wealth. Wall Street by the way, is and always has been very supportive of Democrats, so don't try to say they are just a bunch of greedy Republicans, which you imply. And in case you missed it, the IRS is hiring thousand more to oversee Obamacare.

"First off, obamacare is hardly Making the government in charge of health care."

Perhaps not now... but wait and see.. the aim is toward a single payer, namely the US Government.

"...furthermore, I'd rather have the government in charge of our health care..."

The government screws everything up that it handles. Obamacare will be no exception.

"Talk about red tape, bureaucracy and death panels! Sheesh!"

Death panels are coming... if you're old and need some serious healthcare you will be advised to follow Obama's direction... 'just go home and take a pain pill.'

Charles, again you speak the obvious. In the press we often read of bad choices, flawed judgment or stressed decisions as euphony's for tortfeasor or criminal behavior. If the investigation is legitimate, it will be interesting to see where the buck stops.

" its the worst kind of government corruption possible! Similar to the infamous gestapo and their treatment of their political enemies in Nazi Germany. " So asking extra questions about your motivations and intentions is the same as starving millions of innocent children, coming into a home and murdering entire families, walling off entire communities until they starve, and oh yea gassing millions of your enemies. My my Sir your hatred must really run deep.
