    @dumprake --

    Heterosexuals already have plenty of positive role models. Gay kids still need many more, unfortunately.

    Gay people in the US are **eight times** more likely to be the victims of violent crimes than straight people.

    Roughly one third -- some estimates say one half -- of all homeless youth are gay. They are often on the streets because their own families kicked them out when they found out they had a gay kid.

    Gay youth are roughly **4 times** more likely to commit suicide than straight youth. They often kill themselves because of bullying and/or institutionalized homophobia.

    Until we conquer homophobia and truly accept homosexuals as full citizens, there will always be a need for successful homosexual role models who are willing to stand up and be counted.

    I highly commend both Rogers and Collins for being willing to lead the way in professional sports.

    I'd like to announce to the world that I'm a heterosexual, I play basketball, and I think it's real important that everybody knows that. So please publish a big story on my sexuality, so everyone can go gaga over it.
