Agreed. Also notice the disdain for democracy which which most of our
current legislators have. With their attacks on the initiative and referendum
laws, trying to keep the general public out of "their" business of
running our state, it is obvious they prefer one dollar = one vote instead of
one citizen = one vote. With their persistent attacks on public
education, especially social studies and the humanities, they seem bent on
creating the very uneducated underclass they claim to fear.
to Fly FishermanWelcome. To quote the song and summarize the
article, "The lure of easy money has got a very strong appeal."
@Pendergast"Your post reminds me of the song Smugglers Blues by
Glenn Frey."I almost forgot about that song. Thanks for the
reminder! Haven't heard it in years!
to TheFairTaxChampSpot on.@ Fly FishermanAgreed. Bill Gates (for one) s/b commended for his philanthropy. Your post reminds me of the song Smugglers Blues by Glenn Frey.
I agree. The attempts of some legislators to dismantle our public schools is
another money grab for themselves and their friends and family. What can be said
about the ethics of men and women, elected supposedly to be concerned with the
public trust, to make a profit at the expense of innocent children, who deserve
so much more. It is shameful! These greedy individuals are gambling with the
future of this state.
@TheFairTaxChamp"NO! It is the LOVE of money (power, glory) that
is the root of all evil. AND, it is weak character that is the enabler."The love of money is so powerful, that there is hardly a distinction
anymore between money being the root of all evil, and the love of money being
the root of all evil. Yes, there are a few good, wealthy people who are the
exception, and there are poor and middle class people who are as vulnerable to
the love of money as the wealthy. But let's be honest, money has an allure
and power that leads to evil that history has shown few are able to overcome.
NO! It is the LOVE of money (power, glory) that is the root of all evil. AND, it
is weak character that is the enabler.
It's also 'how' the Gadianton's 'managed' the
Government's of the Nephites and destroyed them. That message
was meant for 'us' for this very reason.
Not much to argue with here. We all know the problem. But the underlying problem
is that we keep electing people who are easily swayed by money. Imagine that.
Amen.Legislators spend more time raising money than legislating. Years
ago Congress, enmasse, would spend time in the chambers debating and voting on
bills. Now, they rush over to quickly vote between fund raising meetings/phone
calls. Many times Congress members are addressing a near empty chamber when
they are speaking. Citizens United will join the list of worst
Supreme Court decisions ever. Our legislative system isn't
functioning, isn't serving Americans due to money and extreme partsanship
of which UT's Mike Lee is front and center.
