Just one more reason why same gender marriage should be legal, so that the
children they are raising have the same protections as children in opposite
gender marriages. When I lost my job my daughter and I lost our health
insurance. My wife's insurance would not cover me or our daughter because
our marriage isn't recognized in Utah. Marriage conveys over 1000 rights
that protect the couple and the family. If you are pro family values you should
be pro gay as well as straight marriage.
So does Utah or Mississippi have the highest percentage of gay couples raising
children? I am confused. The headline and first paragraph say Utah, but later
in the story it says Mississippi.
The Salt Lake metro area has the highest percentage of any city in the nation,
and Mississippi has the highest percentage of any state. Does that clear it up?
It's really no surprise that an area in which family is highly prized
should produce gay couples who also want to create their own families. What continues to surprise me is that some people who *claim* to value
families would continue to deny the legal benefits of marriage to parents who
just happen to be gay.The ultimate effect is to punish children by
denying them the familial stability that legal marriage encourages. Punishing
children for the perceived "sins" of their parents. Does
anyone really believe that's a good idea? Does it really help society to
make kids suffer just because you don't happen to like what their parents
do in the privacy of their own bedrooms?
