"No one can tell me this was not on purpose." Kind of says it all, doesn't it? You know what you know regardless of any facts to the contrary. Since most of us do not keep up on the "conspiracy de jour" on the internet, maybe you can tell us what happened to the money?

PS. Any interest at all in why there are 70,000 applications pending at the IRS for tax FREE status for mostly political organizations? What does the right say about that fact?

If only President Obama would let the republican go on with their made up disasters and get back to doing the things the American people want and need done. While Obamacare may help some, the American people still want and need reform of medical care.

President Obama is the only person in Washington DC that represents all the people of America. Congress has become a crazy collection of selfish and misdirected people who do not represent the American people, even in their own states.

If you are arguing for a simplified tax code you have no argument from me. I stress every April but remember that the loopholes in the code have been created for corporations and wealthy individuals primarily and if your local TeaParty has to show they are a front for shady money then they'll dry up like a desert creek.

Still seems to me the IRS were just doing their job under the law of Congress. Why apologize for that?

Imagine the hyperventilation from the left if any left wing organization got targeted by the IRS instead of some conservative organizations! Imagine if the National Gay and Lesbian task force, the NAACP, the Green Party, Planned Parenthood, Unions or Media Matters were being harassed by the IRS. The air would be rift with outcries of corruption and illegal activity. As it is, what do we hear from the left;" You deserve it." Tax any of these liberal organizations and all of them would dry up like a desert creek.

The far left will not recognize the extent of corruption in the Obama administration regardless of the facts. The IRS was just doing their job, but their job was evidently profiling administration enemies. It's a page from the Hugo Chavez playbook - use the power of the government to destroy your enemies. It's a lesson the Associated Press and Fox News are just learning. Lois Lerner will invoke the 5th amendment when questioned, but don't you invoke the 5th amendment during an IRS audit.

Before you two get your partisan pants in a jam, what say you about 140 IRS employees tasked to review/approve 70,000 requests for tax free status from political groups of all stripes? To my leftist brain, it feels like there are way too many groups wanting to pay no tax on political activity OR there are way too few employees to review the applications. Either we need to cut the requests OR double the number of employees to do the job right.

PS. I tend to doubt that there are 70,000 groups on the right so I am guessing that somewhere near 50% of them are from the same groups you listed. Then again you say we are all paying too much tax so lets fire all the employees and approve all the applications. Would that make you happy?

They were applying for status as 501(c)(4), which are NOT supposed to be political organizations. Organizations with overtly political names got investigated at a higher rate than others. That's it.

Mountonman, keep up, the same letter that got True the Vote all excited was sent to liberal groups and since only liberal groups were denied 501(c) status then who was really targeted? Please keep up.

- As part of the budget deal hashed out on Friday evening, lawmakers agreed that no additional federal funds would be used to hire new IRS agents.
(2011)

The GAO publicly released a study showing that, as of the end of fiscal year 2010, roughly $330 billion in federal taxes had never been paid -- an amount that, if collected, would represent nearly nine times the amount of savings as the budget itself. Despite evidence that a single dollar spent on enforcing the tax code could result in up to ten dollars in revenue, politicians, naturally, are reluctant to align themselves with tax collectors.

A good chunk of the evasion, the GAO concluded, was committed by individuals with “substantial personal assets” including multi-million-dollar homes and “luxury cars.” One passport recipient bought a house for $2 million and another property for $1.5 million despite owing $1 million in federal taxes.

@Ultra Bob:
"If only President Obama would let the republican go on with their made up disasters..."

Made up disasters??? The IRS debacle is made up? You must be a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. The IRS screwed up. And most likely broke the law. The guilty should be brought to justice.

"President Obama is the only person in Washington DC that represents all the people of America."

Sorry, Bob. He doesn't represent me. And he doesn't represent millions of other right-minded, sane, loyal citizens of this country. Sometimes we wish he would go back to Kenya.

"Congress has become a crazy collection of selfish and misdirected people who do not represent the American people, even in their own states."

You will always find differences in that deliberative body. That's how our government works.

@ugottabkidn:
"...the loopholes in the code have been created for corporations and wealthy individuals primarily.."

Could you please list a few of these so-called loop holes for us?
