Barack Obama is the most inspirational figure I have seen in the White House
since JFK, and I've lived a long time. The predatory culture of the Right
may well crush him. In the process, they will crush the spirit of this country.
That an impoverished young black man rose by his own intellect and determination
to the presidency is the most hopeful thing I've seen in a generation. Yet
instead of working with him in good faith, all Republicans have ever done is
spew contempt on him and feign outrage at the very things they themselves are
guilty of in spades. Well . . . have at him. Hobble, cripple, and destroy.
You'll poison the whole nation yet.
I find it interesting that Pignanelli is so up in arms about the AP
"scandal," judging before he knows all the facts. Personally, I'm
willing to get more facts before jumping to conclusions. The First Amendment is
no different from any other right. We enjoy that right for as long as we
don't abuse it. And if reporters were leaking classified information, then
they have abused a Constitution right and may rightly see it taken from them.
With all rights come responsibilities. When we abandon those responsibilities,
we sacrifice our rights. This also applies to the Second Amendment, although
some people seem to mistakenly think that right is absolute.
Irony Guy has used the classic left-wing technique of throwing out a red herring
to distract people from the real issue here. He infers that anyone who
questions Obama's abilities or policies is a racist, in order to prevent
anyone from examining and questioning Obama's actions.Whether
Obama is white, black, or green, the irrefutable truth is that his socialistic
policies are destroying this Country. Instead of asking like JFK what people
could do for their Country, Obama encourages the public to demand that their
Country provide them with every want or need. Indeed, JFK would be downright
ashamed of the entitlement mentality that Obama has done his best to instill in
gullible voters. What is even worse is that Obama seeks to clothe his
works in darkness. His administration's use of the IRS to target opposing
groups is nothing short of despicable. On top of that, the attack on the press
in an effort to silence criticism borders on old-style communist tactics.Hopefully Webb is correct and the slumbering masses will finally awaken
to the reality of the National Democratic Party. Hopefully, this awakening will
come before it is too late.
@John Charity SpringsUmployment is down, markets are up, the Iraq war is
over... you have a weird definition of destroying.
Two of the three current scandals (AP and IRS) are definite signs of tyrannical
government. Benghazi was a bungled and unfortunately deadly attempt to cover up
"bad news" (al Qaeda was not "on the run" and beaten) by the
administration in front of a looming election. The problem will be getting the
pro-Obama media to give these events the coverage they deserve. What do you
think that the great investigative journalists on "60 Minutes" would be
talking about tonight if these things happened during a Republican
administration? Tonight they are advertising a penetrating look at Michael
Jackson's business enterprise. Take a look at Pat Bagley's current
cartoon in the Trib, to see how the left-wing press will proceed on these
"Americans already hold the federal government in very low esteem, and these
scandals reduce trust even more. Policy-wise, the real impact will be on
Obama's second-term agenda. The White House will be so absorbed in
congressional inquiries and putting out fires that his lofty goals will be
blocked"The first two sentences above are untrue as written.
The Presidents's poll numbers have not changed a bit. The first sentence
becomes true if you replace the word "Americans" with "Right-wing
wackos" or if you replace the words "federal government" with
"Congress". The second sentence is totally false as the far-right, which
controls the House, was always going to block the second-term agenda. The third
sentence is true because this is what the far right does when there is a
@atl134I get the sense that your a "Glass half full" kind of
person. Allow a "Glass half empty" guy to remove your rose colored
glasses.Unemployment is down, because ten's of thousands of
people have left the workforce and are no longer figured into the unemployment
formula.Markets are up, yes proped up by the Treasuries continuing
to print money so the Fed can purchase bad mortgage debt, clearing it from the
banks books. QE3 is still ongoing, at $40 billion/month, even if it is not
being reported in the papers. Also, those in the market now are mostly people
that made out like bandits when the market collapsed in '08.War
in Iraq is over, but a few ten thousand haliburton and the company formerly
known as blackwater contractors are still there, being paid six figure incomes.
The war may be over technically but tax payer money is still being spent.
