    To avoid something like this is why we took my dad's driver's license away when he reached 80 years old. He hated it, he was angry, but we knew it was better that he be mad at us rather than he hit someone because he was growing increasingly distracted and couldn't remember how to get home.

    Interestingly, the state of Utah had giving him a renewed DL just two months before. He faked competence very well for the driving test. Just the next week he drove up on a curb into a yard, and didn't know where he was, even though he was just a block away from his home of 30+ years.
