I wish they would report these stories after the conviction. Are these men
really guilty? Or are they in vulnerable situations given the current
"press" on the issue and someone is out to get them personally or to get
$ from the military? Any time someone is accused of something it
seems that we talk as if they were guilty already.
Making new laws won't make a difference. These officers from the military
academies have similar incidents on their turf while we pay for their education.
You have military officers and instructors at the various academies that
don't live their core values in the academy and especially after they leave
for their assignments to become doctors, pilots, engineers, space crew members,
and all types of leaders of men and women. The traditions of the
academies are deep and go beyond just harassment of the opposite sex but in
dealing with other officers that don't come from the academies who are a
step below them in all aspects.
Recently, there was a case of a Marine in Alaska that got around their jail time
as the Navy requested they take over the case and court martial. The Anchorage
police department believed the Navy would take care of this case with DNA.
However, the Court Martial didn't give the Sergeant over the Recruiting in
Alaska jail time even though the DNA from the sample taken at the local hospital
immediately after the rape was the Sergeant's. He got a dishonorable
discharge. The military tries to hide some of these cases and protect their
own. The Lieutenant General that let a Lieutenant Colonel out of his court
martial is another case recently by overturning the court's decision. Many officers lack integrity, even in the military, now and in the past.
They don't help the military members and their families who are honest and
true to their country and their duty.
This misconduct has happened throughout the history of our military. This is
not, nor should it be, a 'political' issue. It's not Democrat
vs. Republican... it's right vs. wrong.
This horrible sexual assault stuff going on in the military is a real threat to
all women who would want to serve our country. It had better be cleaned up
quickly, and that doesn't mean wrist slaps to higher up officers and
enlisted. It means court martial and jail. I don't care if the guy wears
4 stars. If it is his command, it is his responsibility. He can't be like
the buck passing President. Otherwise this problem will not be solved, and the
whole U.S. military will be declared a hostile work place.
