Muslims are good people, and you cannot judge them on what a few of them do.

Same with Americans, you cannot judge them from what a few Muslims do. Say no to gun control advocates.

Yes, the fight is far from over. It won't be over until sensible Americans have prevailed and there are sensible background checks and other vital regulations in place to keep us from the madness we've lived with for far too long.

Good people will still have their guns. But those who would do harm may at least be slowed down a bit.

There is common ground that can be had. Legislation and enforcement that controls violent people, but let's law abiding gun owners alone is something people of good will can agree on. Propose this, and it can be passed. Along with this do a review of all gun laws now on the books and those laws that impose restrictions on the law abiding, repeal them.

Most people don't realize this, but the bill that recently failed in the Senate as a background check bill was really much more than that. It was designed to be a trogen horse. It was designed to impose needless restrictions on law abiding gun owners, and this is in part why the ground swell of resistance materialized against this bill.

Among other things, if friends were camping together, this bill would have made it illegal for one person to hand his gun to his friend his gun so he could shoot it or even look at it. This is simply unacceptable. It is all about making life harder and harassing good people who own guns, it has nothing to do with safety or preventing violence.

Gee, I thought it was possible to be BOTH a Muslim and an American. In fact, I used to live in a city that has had organized Muslim residents for over a hundred years. I guess no one told worf.

Worf..

Americans generally are not sneaking into foreign countries and blowing up it's citizens.
We have our roots into Christianity which advocates love and peace, unlike the masses of Muslems who tolerate or advocate terrorism. Check out the news and the history of these people.

What has happened to America? The US Congress is gridlocked, our standard of living has taken a nose dive, we continue to fight two unnessesary wars, our economy has been in the tank for almost a decade, mass killings still happen and no one wants to do thing one to end the polarization over issues such as illegal immigration, gun control, high taxes, education reform, foreign aid, the skyrocketing cost of health care, deficet spending, freedom of religion, etc. All we want to do is form political battle lines and pursue the skirmish. We are wasting our talents, folks, not to mention our resources. I hope there is a country left for our grandchildren to inheret from our children, assuming they can pay off our spending.

Re: "What has happened to America? . . . no one wants to do thing one to end the polarization . . . . All we want to do is form political battle lines . . . ."

What happened to America is modern Democrat politics.

Democrat political positions all involve higher taxes, more government, less freedom, and destruction of decency. Thus, they can't honestly run on their issues.

They're reduced, then, to demonizing opponents, creating and responding to phony crises, and finding ways to disingenuously blame every bad thing that occurs on their opposition, in order to distract voters and divert attention away from their real agenda.

Democrats have no new ideas. No innovative solutions. No inherent decency. So they falsely portray their opponents as somehow worse -- as a "party of no."

Gridlock and pitched political battles have become the new normal.

That's all Democrats have to offer.

The state of Iowa lets sex offenders have a gun permit.
Common sense, the true meaning of our laws, and decency....where/why have these basic principles disappeared?

procura and cjb, you guys really have been duped by the NRA and hate radio, haven't you?

mohokat

@ old man There have been background checks in place for years. Where have you been? Problem there is (like in immigration) no enforcement. That is the problem with the Federal Govenment. Smoke and mirrors. Gun Control is not about GUNS it is about CONTROL!

one old man

No, mohokat, there are HUGE holes in the background checks. Any felon or mentally ill person can go to almost any gun show anywhere, or to a neighbor or other person and purchase all the firepower they want.

There needs to be a combination of Background Checks without loopholes, and very strict enforcement of background checks with prosecution for anyone who sells a gun without being sure a check is performed. Those things must be added to enforcement of all the laws currently on the books.

@ old man I again say Sen. Lee said it best: "The only way to make a universal background-check system come close to working is to create a national database capturing ownership information of every single gun in the country.
To track all the gun sales, you first have to track all the guns. Otherwise it won't work." That my friend is a National Gun Registy. And that is the pre cursor to confiscation as in what a corrupt power hungry government with the likes of Obama, Pelosi,Feinstein and all the usual suspects now with us want. Again it is not about guns it is about control.

If moh is so intent on being left alone by our government, then he must have been REALLY angry when he learned that his phone conversations were subject to wiretaps without warrants under GWB.

Yeah. We've been duped into asking the question, "if none of the "solutions" liberals demand actually address the supposed "problems" they bleat so loudly, what is their real agenda?"

What dupes!

Two can play...

What happened to America is modern republican politics.

republicans have the patent on demonizing opponents, creating and responding to phony crises, and finding ways to disingenuously blame every bad thing that occurs on their opposition, in order to distract voters and divert attention away from their real agenda.

republicans have no new ideas. No innovative solutions. No inherent decency. So they falsely portray their opponents as somehow worse -- as a "party of no."

Gridlock and pitched political battles have become the new normal.

That's all republicans have to offer.

There... all better.

Re: "Two can play..."

Thanks for making my point.

Sure, two can play. But only conservatives do so honestly. Liberals are just executing their cynical, disingenuous political strategy.

@ Mark B. Is that it? Or do you have more than Bush did it?

My comment was regarding something that actually happened, while yours, moh, was speculation on something that hasn't even been proposed by the administration. Your attack, it seems, must therefore be based on politics. You didn't win either of the last two elections, so you are determined to make it uncomfortable for those who did.

Most of you don't seem to understand that a private gun seller does not have access to background inforation because it is private information.

Mark B. Speculation you say. Read here Quote in 1995 from Feinstein your champion Senator: Dianne Feinstein:If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States, for an outright ban, picking up [every gun] Mr. and Mrs. America, turn em all in. Do not believe that The King would not love for her to get her wish. As far as the last two elections making it uncomfortable for the likes of you. You bet!!Tell me more.
