The police in general already fly surveillance with helicopters. They patrol in
squad cars, get reports from neighbors and investigate suspicious activity
undercover.Drones just let them do it cheaper. It's still
people looking around at the environment even if they are sitting on the ground.
I don't want any police department flying drones, especially for
surveillance. That is simply too much power for them.
@Big Mom - No they don't have drones, but they've submitted requests
to the FAA to allow them to have blimps that would fly surveillance routes and
monitor suspicious activities. On the one hand, I feel police
departments need to have access to technology that allows them to do their jobs
better, and make the public safer. This is technology that would allow law
enforcement to not only respond to crimes more quickly, but in some cases
actually prevent it. But, if that comes at the expense of the people's
right to privacy, then serious consideration needs to be given before employing
such equipment. It's obviously a fine line.
Did I miss something? Ogden PD does not have drones, never has, and has no plans
to have them. Why the sudden attack on Ogden?
