The "one point" Mia Love lost by is the point that she is a closed-minded ultra-conservative with more personal political ambition than concern for the American people.

While Mia is running against Jim, let's hope that Donna McAleer will continue her run to replace Rob Bishop. Then, when election time comes around, let's hope that both Jim and Donna will be successful. Mia has already shown her true political colors and they're not pretty.

Prediction: Love loses by a much larger margin the second time round. Sorry Mia, the Tea Party movement is burning out.

Perhaps now we will figure out what she meant about being the baby who allowed her parents to become citizens. (Or maybe she'll continue to deny she ever said it. I'm backing Benson on that one.)
It is interesting to note that the left sees her as nothing more than a token minority candidate. Don't expect them to give her any credibility. They only respect minorities in their own party.

Why doesn't she concentrate on fulfilling her duties as mayor of our city. All she cares about is climbing the political ladder. Shame on her.

Mia's fantastic. I hope she gets him this time.

@Independent Thinker: No Mia lost because she couldn't get her message out. Politics is dirty business and Matteson did what he needed to do to win and Mia didn't have the tools to compete. Mia will lose again unless she can do a much better job communicating her message. Matteson didn't win the election Mia Love lost it.

Oh please no! I'm not in her district but the TV advertisements Love ran ad nauseum were enough to drive everyone in Utah nuts. I'm still reeling from the negative attack ads and am not looking forward to her being involved in any Utah politics. Once was enough and there is no love...

Actually, hamberg (2:41 p.m. March 17, 2013) Mia lost because she DID get her message out. She got it out completely and well. Her problem came from the fact that people understood her message, and then rejected both her and her message (and in the process rejected her very dishonest campaigning). Utah won big-time when Representative Matheson was re-elected because he is Utah's only representative on the national level (in either the House or the Senate) who represents all the citizens of Utah and not just those on the extreme far right fringes. The state and its people won big-time when Mia Love was defeated.

@Hamburg
What is Mia Love's message?

Whether Mia Love runs, wins, or loses, Americans that stand for god-fearing, Constitutional principles, will never give up. We are in the majority, if God is counted, no matter who joins in the chorus for a Godless socialistic government. Socialism will never solve the challenges of the 21st century, or for any century for that matter. Socialism is Anit-God at its core. So, unless you are a socialist, limiting government, protecting and defending the Constitution, and defending marraige and family values are the only things of worth. If the Democrats, Libertarians, Republicans, Libertarians, or Independents are for the above mentioned values, they have my support. So, go ahead, what am I? And what of the above named values do you disagree with? The real American Patriots will in the end be defined by Liberty, as defined by the above mentioned values, not whether he/she belonged to a political party.

Don't hire "old guard" consultants. Go fresh with "new guard" conservatism!

@JRGL: Matheson's campaign went dirty when Jim started falling behind in the polls and when Mia Love tried to counter, Mia countered in a very poor and ineffective way. Mia wasn't prepared to debate Jim Matteson and failed to attack him on his weaknesses as a candidate. Jim's strengths is that Jim will respond even to people who aren't in his district where most of the other candidates don't. Because of that Jim has a resource of volunteers of people loyal to him and Mia is more distant which will make her unelectable if she doesn't change. Jim is a Blue Dog Democrat from Utah which means he has little influence especially in a seat that is at risk. Mia and Crockett are two examples of where candidates lost because they couldn't organize volunteers where that's Matheson's strength.

@hamberg
So Mia cannot get her message out in the conservative state of Utah but somehow she is going to be effective at being a voice for Utah out in DC? The fact she cannot get her message out in a relatively favorable environment like Utah is all the more reason to think she does not have what it takes to go to DC.

Mia like the rest of the GOP does not have a problem getting their message out they are very good at talking, the gop's issue is they forgot how to listen.

The sequels are almost always worse than the originals. That race was so ugly last time I'm tempted to move out of state instead of having to witness it again.

@Tolstoy: An overwhelming number of our elected officials DO NOT LISTEN to the voters, nor do they attempt to communicate directly with them. Two examples of candidates that do have more of a direct relationship with the voters are Orin Hatch and Jim Matteson and THAT IS EXACTLY WHY THEY KEEP GETTING ELECTED! Mia Love did get her message out because she attacked Jim Mattheson on the wrong issues which he was weakest so when Jim Matteson decided to go negative when he was falling behind in the polls Mia Love couldn't recover. Matteson isn't very effective in Washington because he is a Blue Dog Democrat in a state that doesn't matter to the very liberal Democratic leadership in Washington. I like Jim Matteson however most any other Democrat would be more effective than Jim in the House. There would have been no difference in the House between Mia Love and Jim Matteson because they don't really matter. Matteson won the election because he does one thing exceptionally well and that's relates to the voters and until a Republican can equal that strength they will continue to lose. No other issue matters.

It looks like from the comments that people mostly want to move on.

Token is still token.

I heard her name trotted out yesterday morning on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace as an example of diversity in the conservatives party? So one mayor of a small town in the most conservative state who lost to a democrat is the best they can come up with to convince the people they are ready to lead?

Mia was close last time but she needs conservatives to actually show up at the polls. If they put together a good campaign she might have a good shot at winning. 2014 is still a bit off so anything can happen.
