How many coach votes did Cody John receive? I don't see him on the list at all. Additionally, please elaborate on the voting process. How many votes per coach?

Ummm, he's the MVP.

Copy that Manti, does his absence from the list imply his name was not considered in the voting process because Desnews had already determined he was MVP before the coaches voted? Or was his name ommitted from the published list because Desnews named him MVP? Just curious, not intentionally dense.

All I can say is Sour Grapes to you all - can't you even acknowledge that Wasatch Academy had a bunch of great student athletes and they worked just as hard to win their games as anyone else? I applaud all the 2A all stars so can't we just be a little more positive with our comments?

As clarification, my questioning how many votes Cody John received was not a reflection of my personal, albeit limited, exposure to his performance. I did see most of his last two games on the desnews stream and was very impressed with him individually and with the WA team as a whole. They appeared to be a team that could go to any of their starters on any key offensive possession with confidence unmatched by any of the other 2A teams I observed. I have no reason to contend he is undeserving, simply interested in the voting process.

If the kid is selected MVP, then he isn't left on the list for any team, it makes one more spot available for someone else. If it makes you feel better, just say he is on the first team as well.

But theoretically, the coaches may not have him first team, or even second team...The DesNews decides MVP, not the coaches. Which DOES make one wonder...where would they have put him?

As for sour grapes...yes, there ARE some bad feeling about that sort of thing, and rightfully so, since most 2A schools are limited to athletes that live in the area the school serves, but WA gets to bring in kids from literally anywhere. If a public 2A team had a kid move in from the next town over, or from SLC, without his parents, he'd be ineligible, but WA academy is private and provides housing, so they are OK to bring anyone in, and they are eligible immediately? It makes no sense at all.

Several on that team could have been chosen MVP, and would also be deserving. Perhaps Luscando should have been MVP? I personally would choose him if choosing from WA. They won the Utah 2A State Tourney, and that is why one of their players was chosen. They are talented players, some of the top kids from their perspective country! Do a little internet research if you don't believe me. Imagine if we made up a team with the top players in even just the USA and we were able to compete in any STATE championship, let alone a 2A State championship. Would be fun eh? Before people pounce, I am definitely NOT being negative about the kids, they are very talented and I can't blame them for coming here to pursue their dreams of playing basketball.

@zelmob I too am interested in the voting process, and I didn't think you were being negative or saying that John was undeserving. It would be interesting to know how and when they choose, and how many votes their chosen MVP received.

I don't know what happened to that first part of my post. I must have missed it when I copied it over after taking words out to meet the requirements. This is what I missed.

First of all CONGRATS to Cody John. He is definitely a great player, and he is surrounded by other amazing players.

I watched a lot of 2A games this year. Cody John is an excellent choice as MVP. He did what his team needed him to do to win, and he did it very, very well. Wasatch Academy was just so loaded they did not need him to score 30 points every night like Parsons had to for South Sevier to win. Luzcando was great, Kaba was great, Diop was great, McEwan was great - Crosby was good enough to be at least 2nd team All State, and he came off the bench! With that good a team, the MVP had to come from Wasatch Academy.
