The title is misleading, nothing about the studies mentioned indicates anything about future temperatures.
The leading quote is biased as well "First the good news: In the last 11,300 years, humans have endured a planet warmer than today's, even as they set about building their earliest civilizations."
Humans did not "endure" warmer climates, human civilization thrived in warmer periods, and retreated during colder periods.
" ...if current warming trends hold, those records will be broken by the end of the century."
What warming trend? Temperatures have been flat for 15 years now, so if the current trend holds, the end of the century will be just like the beginning.
The key to this entire argument of global warming lies in one sentence within this article:
"There is no single, agreed-upon method of calculating these temperatures."
That indicates that all any scientist has to do to "prove" his position is to use whichever method (of the multiple available) that tends to support his specific position. Hence, multiple different (and often opposing) positions have been "proven" to be correct, depending on which method was used for obtaining calculations.
Therefore, the ongoing controversy continues. And until there is a single method of measurement proven and accepted to be the most correct, there will not be any unanimous conclusions that forego controversy.
I can't wait for Utah to become a tropical paradise.
