@ RiddlesAre you seriously trying to mock Utah for not being ranked
TrueBlue"Word is there are now more than 70 tents filled with
BYU students waiting in line at the Marriott Center for tonight's game
against #2 Gonzaga"I wonder if there are any Utah fans
monitoring this blog who can tell us how many students are lined up at Haas
Pavilion for tonight's game against Utah?
Any chance we could get the BYU commits from Lone Peak to play in this game?
Then we might have a chance.
Word is there are now more than 70 tents filled with BYU students waiting in
line at the Marriott Center for tonight's game against #2 Gonzaga - based
on past experience, you can figure at least 10 students per tent when the tents
come down and the line forms before the doors are opened. The
excitement is starting to build for a rocking Marriott Center crowd.Go Cougs!
I'm looking forward to the Olynyk/Davies matchup, only to be surpassed by
the spasmodic outbursts of fouls, turnovers and poor shot selection by
The Zags have one of their best teams ever and BYU is in a bit of a re-building
season, but I'm still looking forward to a great game. Tonight is the
WCC's time to shine in the national spotlight. Even our friends
from the hill are more intrigued by BYU hosting the #2 Zags, than their own game
against another team on the west coast.
cush81BYU has a large alumni association in the DC Metro area. In
fact, a recent survey of fans showed that BYU is in the top 20 most popular
teams in Washington, D.C.
@RockwellNice to see there's at least one other person who will
be burning the midnight oil for tonight's game. When I moved
here, I was surprised with how many Gonzaga Alum live out here. Considering the
difference in school size, I can only imagine how many Cougs call DC home
As a BYU fan, I'd love to see BYU pull off the upset tonight, but in the
overall scheme, it could be in BYU's best long term advantage for the WCC
to have the #1-ranked team heading into the NCAA tournament as a #1 seed and
making a deep run in the Big Dance.Either way, the Marriott Center
will be rocking tonight, and BYU is certainly capable of pulling the upset if
they get hot from the outside and their big three all have great games.
cush81It's nice to see a Zags fan checking in. Should be a fun
game tonight.Go Cougs!
@cush81Great post and spot on! Amen Bro!GO ZAGS!
As a Zag alum and fan, this game does scare me. Personally, I think it's
harder to play in the small barns like at SMC then the big ones, but the truth
is that Gonzaga hasn't won yet at the Marriott Center, and they played
horribly there last year. If they lose tonight, the place will probably be in
their heads. Gonzaga has played amazing basketball 3 of their last 4 games, so
I think they should win tonight. But I've been around long enough to know
that road games in the WCC don't come easy, no matter how inferior the
opponent may seem. If this is a blowout, I will be surprised. I have a lot of
respect for BYU and their program. I hope they stick around in the conference,
because it's fun to have another solid program on the schedule
Striker, I do think BYU is better than USF and USD. However, there are 2
advantages those teams had over BYU. Gonzaga had lost 3 straight in San
Francisco, so that place was in the head of the Zags. The difference this year
was when it seemed like everything started going USF's way, Gonzaga kept
their heads down and played their game. In the end, the game wasn't as
close as the score might indicate. As for San Diego, if there's a coach
out there who knows Gonzaga, it's Bill Grier. He was Few's right hand
man for years before taking that job. He knows all of Few's moves,
it's just whether or not he can stop Few's superior talent on the
Gonzaga would win the PAC 12 and it wouldn't even be that close. They may
lose a game, or possibly two, but they are a lot better then Arizona, Oregon or

@ moderateinmagnaUtah is ranked 137, ahead of five WC teams. Utah
is bad, but it would still be in the top half of the WCC. Also Gonzaga is good,
but they are far from invincible. In fact they already played Washington State
and managed to win by a whole two points. I doubt the Zags would be able to
navigate a full PAC-12 schedule without taking a couple losses. Lastly, in
Utah's previous three games the Utes beat a team ranked in the top 100
(something BYU has not done), lost to a top 10 team by four, and lost to a top
50 team by 10 on the road. There is no need for hyperbole.

well chris b your Utes would lose to every team in the WCC but they would lose
by 200 points to Gonzaga, so your point is moot ,your hate and envy is
showing, Gonzaga would trounce every team in your precious pac10,2 by more than
20 points The way your Utes are playing right now they would have a hard time
beating the Ute womens team.

in OT in the Sub-Regional held in Pocatello, after leading by 20 at the half,
BYU's Kresimir Cosic might have faced UCLA's Bill Walton in the
Marriott Center in the Elite Eight."I attended every game and
BYU's 95-90 overtime loss to Long Beach St was the most exciting game
played in the West Region in 1972. Both teams were ranked in the Top 10.
Ironically, the 49ers' exciting win over BYU was later expunged along with
all of their other games from their 1971, 1972, and 1973 NCAA tournament
appearances because of NCAA violations - Jerry Tarkanian was 49ers'
coach.Weber State destroyed #12 Hawaii 91-64#6 Long Beach St

The only thing the Utes have on BYU is conference affiliation. We landed our
non-football sports in the WCC, a few steps down from the PAC-12. But at least
we're not the pond scum of the conference. Congrats Utes! Be proud.
It is astounding to me that Utah fans would come on a basketball story and make
derogatory comments about a team that is so much better than theirs. I would
pretty much stay undercover if my team had been as poor as their's these
past few years (this year included). BYU has not been up to their usual caliber
this year but Utah has consistently been terrible.

WON84The best team ever to play in the Marriott Center was the
1971–72 UCLA team of Bill Walton, Henry Bibby, Jamaal Wilkes, Larry Farmer
and Greg Lee. In 1972, UCLA won their eighth championship in nine years under
head coach John Wooden and had a record of 30–0 while winning its games by
an average margin of more than 30 points. That season was also part of
UCLA's NCAA record 88-game winning streak. In the NCAA West
Regional played in the Marriott Center during the first season it opened:March 16, 1972, UCLA beat Weber State 90-58 - Sweet 16March 18,

Ya gotta love college basketball because the upset is always possible. I
can't even remember all of the upsets of ranked teams this year so if BYU
plays a great game and Gonzaga doesn't it is possible BYU will win!GO COUGARS!
@Chris BScoreboard! (and the rest that I listed) BYU FTW!
BYU has been playing more aggresively on defense and it has been making a
difference. If BYU can play tough D and hit some 3's, they have a chance.
Gonzaga is the better team but at home, BYU has a good shot at knocking them
@ Chris BWhy is it that Utah has the four biggest wins in the state?
Because that is all they have? So what you are saying is that everytime Utah
gets a win, it is the biggest win in the state? It appears you are a victim of
your own delusions? Welcome to the BYU message board
BYU played great against St Mary's. They did not get beat up by them.
Had St Mary's shot normal free throw percentages, we would have won.
That game gave me more hope for this team than any other game. That
being said, if BYU will play with that kind of intensity at home with some home
cookin' and a few more calls going our way at home, we do have a chance.
But more than that, we just need a good showing here and the WCC championships
could be attainable.

Anything can happen in one game, especially at the Marriott Center. I'm not
holding my breath, but it's still exciting to have an opportunity to play
the #2 team in the country at home. From a Utah fan- good luck to the cougs
We lost because of the refs again.
Mildred is already looking for excuses. Eeh Gads! This Gonzaga team is very
talented, and very deep. If BYU shoots the ball well, especailly from 3 pt.
range, they have a good chance of pulling off the upset. It seems like the Zags
have dropped at least one road game to WCC opponents over the years: usually St.
Mary's or San Fran. I really like this year's team though; very good
inside: Olynik, Harris, Dower, etc. GO ZAGS GO!
As long as the referees don't allow the Zags to maul Hawes abd Davies, we
have a legitimate shot at beating the Zags at the MC.
I see that my little sister was once again the first frantic and emotional
poster on another BYU blog. She's just jealous that while BYU is
hosting the #2 team in the country on ESPN2 in front of a packed 20,000+ seat
arena, our rundown Utes will be playing Cal in front of a sparse crowd on ESPNU.
I'm not convinced San Diego or San Francisco is better than BYU. Both
teams took Gonzaga to the wire at their place, but managed to barely win. BYU
has a winning record and it's very tough to win at BYU. Only losses came
on a last second prayer and rarely-seen on-fire shooting. BYU handled Gonzaga
pretty easily last year here, and Gonzaga was the better team. I can see an
upset. BYU feeds off the home court and the crowd, and it will be sold out and
rockin'. BYU may just very well make headlines Friday morning.
BYU should get killed. They simply aren't very good this season though
this sets up nicely. The pressure is on for Gonzaga to win and assume the No. 1
ranking. Also, Gonzaga is not the "best" team who has ever
come to the Marriott Center. They might be the highest ranked but, I'd
take San Diego St. (two years ago) and Wake Forest at least in recent memory.
I'm sure there are others.
As a Ute and a Zag, I wish the Cougs all the luck in the world but I don't
think that there is a chance that BYU can win. BYU is to inconsistent to keep
pace with the Zags. They also have no answer to the Bigs of the Zags. Sorry
Cougs Davies is not a defensive stopper. Good luck!Go ZagsGo Utes
I've heard the students have been already been lining up for a couple of
day.Should be an exciting game, and a win-win situation for BYU.A win, and BYU pulls off a huge upset of #2-ranked Gonzaga, the highest
ranked team BYU has ever played in the Marriott Center.orA loss, which would likely pave the way for the WCC to have the #1-ranked team
next week.Good luck Cougars!
