The future of Ute football is bright! 2 coaches that each have top 2 final
national rankings. Improving recruiting classes since joining the Pac 12.As we saw with USC crumbling last year, you have to have both the talent
and the coaching to win championships. We're getting the talent little by
little. The coaching is already here. This year any team in the
South can win the division, except for Colorado probably. Its an open race and
we'll be right there.
This kid looks like he has the potential to be very good for us. He appears to
be 1 of those guys that commits before a lot of other schools have gotten on
him. A potential diamond in the rough. When I see that size, frame, and athletic
build along with those long arms he has OT written all over him. Also the build
to add on another 30 pounds of muscle without sacrificing speed and
quickness.Good get UTES!
Kenyon Frison = 0 starsOh wait, that only matters when we're
talking about BYU commits.Carry on.
chris b"The coaching is already here."Then how
do you explain Utah losing to UNLV(2-10) and Colorado(3-10)?
Looks like Frison's high school coach recruited him to Utah. I
wonder why Whittingham didn't wait until the stars were placed next to
Kenyon's name before offering him? ;-)
Commenting on a lower star rated player who committed to BYU.Chris B
- "Its just not the approach Nick Saban, Les Miles, Mack Brown, Chris
Peterson, Kyle Whittingham, and other coaches with BCS bowl wins take."And now with a zero star player committing to Utah, U have have the
talent to win the Championship?I just don't get it.Chris B - "This year any team in the South can win the division, except
for Colorado probably. Its an open race and we'll be right there."This is in the same thought process as BYU fans who think we'll win
a NC next year. Too many loses on the D Line, inexperienced QB, new RB; and
quite frankly an up and coming Arizona and UCLA team. Besides USC has a better
reruiting class, so that means they win, right?
"This year any team in the South can win the division, except for Colorado
probably. Its an open race and we'll be right there."Good
to see you start the season with your sights set on the Rose Bowl Chris, just
like last year. Let us know how you feel after the the Stanford and Oregon
games."The coaching is already here."Would that
be the same "coaching" that put all their eggs in the Jordan Wynn basket
2 consecutive years with no thought of a backup plan and no viable provisions
for depth at the most important position on the team? This will
surely be a year you'll want to win your September bowl game. I presume
that's the only "bowl" you'll participate in again this year.

Figures!"You can't coach height" - Frank LaydenGo Utes!!
Attention clueless byu fansI am fine with any coach finding a few
players who flew under the radar and weren't heavily recruited. The differnece is that byu can essentially only get 2 star nobodies.A team with an average high star ranking and a few 0 star "under the radar
guys" isCOMPLETELYDIFFERENTthan a team
with a low star ranking average and a few 3 starsLOL!You
BYU fans are going to start claiming to have equal talent to Alabama if Nick
Saban finds an under the radar 0 star guy and offers him!LOL
For those of you who don't know any better - Rivals has very few people
rated right now. Only the top 250 (Jackson Barton #62). Everyone after that
has no star - yet. All this talk coming from Utah-obsessed fans whose own team
had 7 commits with NO ranking at all by ESPN on signing day, and 8 two stars
(half the signing class!). I would hope that you would take your - way too
early - star smack and point it at your own coaches who seem to aim for the
bottom of the barrel lately.BTW - 24/7, who have a lot more players
ranked, shows Utah with 2 4 stars already and 1 3 star. The whY - 1 3 star, 1 2
star and 2 not ranked. Tsk TskThese Utah stories are like a big
bowl of warm milk - it attracts all the little kitties!!Go Utes!!

SEVEN 4-star recruits#19 Washington#26 Oregon#30 California#39 Arizona#40 StanfordNot ranked in the Top 40 Utah - ZERO
5-star, ONE 4-star recruitYet, delusional christy claims that any
team in the South can win the division. Its an open race and the Utes will be
right there.LOL at the total disconnect Utah fans have with
recruiting. A slight edge for Utah over BYU in recruiting, and Utah
fans boast about having a monumental edge on the field. A monumental
edge by most of the PAC 10.2 over Utah, and our delusional friends on the hill
think that the Utes are going to be "right there" with the rest of the
big boys.Gotta laugh at the delusional inconsistency.
This zero-star recruit will not be nearly as good as our 7 zero-star recruits.
@uteananymous,We OWN you on the field.
Kinda hard for a kid who just recently started playing high school football to
be rated by recruiting services before his junior year is even done. With his
size and athleticism, there's a lot of upside, and the fact that he
didn't spend 5 or 6 years already beating his body up on the football field
could end up being a positive for him. Most likely very raw talent, so
let's hope he spends the offseason and coming year developing his game.
Congratulations, Kenyon, best of luck.
If he went to byu he would probably have 50 stars by now.
Vegas Ute"or those of you who don't know any better -

"A team with an average high star ranking..."I see that
another Utah blog has turned into spin city.5- and 4-stars are HIGH
star rankings, 3-stars is not; so you must be talking about UCLA and USC,
because the Utes don't come close to having an average HIGH star
ranking. While the Utes are busy beating their chests about
Utah's slightly better-than-BYU recruits, the rest of the PAC 10.2 is
chuckling to themselves wondering just how clueless these new comers from the
hill really are.
I get a kick out of fans on both sides arguing about "stars." All that
matters is what happens when they get there. Many 5-star athletes are nothings.
Many 0-star athletes become famous.
RE @ Troytown. . . VegasUte at least understands the system. Stars have not
been awarded to players yet. 247Sports is the only site w/ an early attempt to
award starts. (two 4 stars and 1 three so far)Wait until December
and then check out which players have how many stars, both for BYU and Utah, and
you'll be in a better position to make comments. Remember a closed mouth
gathers no foot.
Utealmost said:"A slight edge for Utah over BYU in
recruiting", Utah's class was ranked #43, as opposed to BYU's #70.
That would be like saying South Carolina (#16), had a slight edge over Utah. At
least be accurate and honest. Then again, why start now? It's
pretty early in the recruiting zseason, but a couple of items are a given: Utah
will out recruit BYU; again. Utah will beat them on the playing field: again!
christySo if UCLA, USC, Arizona and ASU ALL finished ahead of Utah
in the PAC 10.2 last season, and ALL of them had BETTER recruiting classes than
U, how, exactly did U "improve" so you think you're "right
there" with the rest of the PAC South?UCLA, the top team in the
PAC South in 2011 and 2012, signed SEVENTEEN 4-star recruits, to only ONE for
Utah. If the "star" system is even close to accurate, the Utes
don't have a prayer of beating the Bruins. It's laughable
that the Utes think that by hiring the guy that Arizona State FIRED two years
ago, that was suddenly going to make the Utes a player in the PAC South.
Didn't U already try that a couple of years ago? How'd that one work
out? They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing
over and over, but expecting different results.RIP flash-in-the-pan
Utah football; your best days are behind U.
Snack PAC: Nobody is beating their chests - we are laughing and responding to
how ridiculous it is that the Ute-obsessed trollers are always flocking to Utah
stories. Those who don't like how we respond to trollers shouldn't be
Uteanymous: By "slight edge"' do you mean ESPN having no rank for
7 y recruits and 2 stars for 8 - on signing day? That's half your class!
You sure throw the word "delusional" around a lot!BTW - keep
being obsessed with Utah, it is great entertainment for us Ute fans!!
JoCo UteIf no stars have been awarded, how did Whittingham know that
Frison was any good? What difference does it make how many stars both
BYU and Utah have in December - Utah will only play BYU TWICE, in the next FOUR
years? Utah will play at least 36 PAC 10.2 games during the same time period.
If stars are so important, how does Utah ever expect to compete in
the PAC 10.2. The Utes will NEVER out recruit USC and UCLA, and will
only rarely out recruit ASU, Arizona and Colorado (as soon as Colorado turns
their program around)?
Spokane Ute"Utah will out recruit BYU; again. Utah will beat
them on the playing field: again!"Even if that is true, how is
that going to help U beat USC, UCLA, Arizona, and ASU who all signed better
recruiting classes in 2013 than U?*crickets*
@GordonBlueUtah has played all of those schools very, very close
recently; and beat Arizona the year before last. Obviously, there's a lot
more to winning then recruiting. The Utes will be back, one season doesn't
discount what they have done the last 10.I guess the crickets just
Spokane Ute"Utah has played all of those schools very, very

of the few honest Utah fans - at least on these blogs.Recruiting
rankings aren't everything.
Spokane UteArizona didn't have Roderick when Utah beat the
Wildcats.Losing to teams "closely" still isn't
winning.Utah has had some success during the last 10 years, but the
Utes have been in steady decline since their peak in 2008.UCLA is
much improved from a couple of years ago and just got MUCH stronger.*crickets* still chirping

54-10You have really hit the nail on the head. The lowly opinion of the
Utes by obsessed BYU fans is of little consequence due to the fact the Y has
been dominated on the field. I freely admit the Utes severely under achieved
last year but if you take the "logic" of byu fans and the Utes are in
such poor shape the Y must be flat awful.
@ mussingaroundArizona still doesn't have anybody named
@CordonBleu"Utah will out recruit BYU; again. Utah will beat
them on the playing field: again!"Even if that is true, how is
that going to help U beat USC, UCLA, Arizona, and ASU who all signed better
recruiting classes in 2013 than U?*crickets*---------------Probably the way we beat UCLA and Arizona in 2012
when they signed a better recruiting classes playing with MWC talent... great
coaching KW and Chow. It depends on if Erickson can turn the offense around.
.... a verbal commitment for the 2014 season (not 2013).Dear Cougar
Fans, That means Kenyon is currently a JR. in high school, not a senior. Stars
are not assigned yet. Please feel free to bust our chops if the kid
had zero stars in December 2013, but I'm sure that won't be the case.
The Moose:"Many 0-star athletes become famous."Correction: Only a FEW 0-star athletes become famous. Not "many".
U 90"Please feel free to bust our chops if the kid had zero
stars in December 2013,..."You just don't get it, do you?
BYU fans aren't busting your chops about stars; BYU fans are
laughing at U for being so obsessed with stars. Here's a reality
check:UCLA BEAT U at RES in 2012.UCLA signed SEVENTEEN
4-star recruits; Utah signed ONE!If stars are as meaningful as U
claim they are, then Utah will NEVER have a chance of beating the Bruins. If, despite the stars, you claim U do have a decent chance of beating
UCLA, then stars aren't nearly as meaningful as you pretend they are.Either way, it's great fun casting stars bait, and then watching
our little brothers go into a feeding frenzy.
MUSSing with U:"The Utes will NEVER out recruit...UCLA."Utah already HAD! Your big brother out-recruited the Bruins back in
2011. We certainly will need to step up our recruiting to stay competitive with
our league members, but to say "never" is just a jealous anguished jab.
It might "feel" good to say, but sadly for you, it was a fail. For what it's worth, I'm not sure why our little brother is so
interested in Utah's ability to keep up with the rest of the Pac-12, since
the Pac-12 has nothing to do with you. You weren't wanted. "Pac-12
recruiting" is Utah's problem. Not yours. Your problem is keeping
YOUR recruiting competitive with the mid-majors like Toledo, Southern Miss, and
all the Louisiana schools not-named LSU.
U's little brother:"UCLA BEAT U at RES in 2012."What a frantic and emotional "feel good" thing to say. Too bad
for you it isn't true. UCLA edged the Utes at the Rose Bowl (21-14) in
2012. At RES, your "Norm Chow-led" big brother dominated them 31-6
(2011). And 44-6 (2007). UCLA hadn't beaten the Utes in SLC since
1974."Either way, it's great fun casting stars bait, and
then watching our little brothers go into a feeding frenzy."Is
it? I remember back in 2009-10 - before you dropped down to play WAC football -
when you guys thought you were finally going to out-recruit your big bro with
your 4-star talents named Heaps and Ross. Back then, stars mattered to our
Indy-WACey little brother. But as soon as you dropped out of the MWC, and
joined ranks with the WAC, and your recruiting pool plummeted, THAT's when
"stars didn't matter". Seems to me that stars only don't
matter when you know you're not going to attract many.
U's little brother:P.S.: Utah out-recruited our
bubble-dwelling WAC-ish and mid-majorey little brother in 9 of the last 12
recruiting classes. And then won on the field in 8 of the last 11.Coincidence?
@ Little Brother "BYU fans aren't busting your chops about stars; BYU
fans are laughing at U for being so obsessed with stars"Let me
get this straight, you are a BYU fan on a Utah thread talking smack about a kid
with zero starts. Who is obsessed with stars? You need some mirror time. I
guess when you are getting out-recruited by Utah year in and year out I can see
where you would be a bit sensitive on the stars issue. And if you are
even hinting that starts don't really matter, please see Alabama.
Re @ Mussing w/U Are you serious? Did you really ask "If no stars have been
awarded, how did Whittingham know that Frison was any good?" Do you really
not understand recruiting services?Coaches have been watching kids
for 3 years or longer by the time they get to be seniors. BYU and Utah both
have a good handle on local talent and if they think a player is good enough
they offer him a scholarship. What a scouting service thinks doesn't matter
if a player is a known product. As for STARS in December, players who
currently are listed as NR simply have Not be Rated. It does not mean that they
have no Stars. If you're going to comment on recruiting it might help to
understand how it works. Once again NR means NOT RATED.
Really enjoying the utah "fan" hypocrisy. A no star with no other offers
is all of a sudden a "hidden gem" and a "diamond in the rough"
with "vast potential". I admit I know nothing about this
kid, and neither do any of these utah "fans". He may be the stud of all
studs but based on utah "fan" criteria he is simply not what they claim
utah gets. Offering a no star with no other offers before any other team does is
not something utah does is it?LOL!
U 90I didn't see one word from Y's Little Brother about
the kid with zero stars. In fact, the general theme of the
"stars" discussion by BYU fans has been that "stars" are greatly
over-rated when it comes to evaluating recruiting. It's
interesting that while Utah fans are busy beating their chests about
outrecruiting BYU (based solely on the number of stars given to each recruit),
those same fans are completely ignoring the fact that Utah finished in the
bottom third of the PAC 10.2 in recruiting, based on that exact same
criteria.Since U only play BYU TWICE in the next four years, while
playing THIRTY-SIX games against PAC 10.2 teams, shouldn't your main focus
be on how the Utes stack up against the PAC 10.2.Thanks for
confirming Utah's total obsession with their big brother, BYU.-----------Naval VetLOL at your spin.Let's not forget Utah walloping UCLA at home in 2007, then getting shut
out by 10-loss UNLV the next week. Besides, didn't you just totally
invalidate your entire "stars" argument by ignoring the fact that UCLA
just signed SEVENTEEN 4-star recruits, while Utah only signed ONE?
JoCo Ute"Re @ Mussing w/U Are you serious? Did you really ask

you really so naive that you didn't understand that Mussing with U was
being facetious?Bronco and Whit couldn't care less about how
many stars some recruiting service places next to a each player's name;
they recruit players based on their own evaluations. That's why it's
so laughable that certain fans on this blog are so obsessed with rating
recruiting classes based on stars.
Duckhunter"Really enjoying the utah "fan" hypocrisy. A
no star with no other offers is all of a sudden a "hidden gem" and a
"diamond in the rough" with "vast potential"."LOL! Couldn't agree with the utter hypocrisy of Utah fans.
Their flavor-of-the-minute arguments are childish and hilarious. Utah recruiting
a few 3-star recruits more than BYU is a monumental advantage, but UCLA
recruiting SIXTEEN 4-star recruits more than Utah is insignificant. And now all
of a sudden a zero-star recruit is a hidden gem simply because he committed to
You guys are ALL so childish. What exactly does this 3rd grade
girlish hair pulling contest have to do with a kid who just started playing
Football a year ago, and has developed (already) into a kid deserving of a
scholarship? This is a complete underdog story that makes all of the
crazy little league parent behavior even MORE idiotic. Here's a kid that
NEVER played little league, never made an All Star team, or won a midget or
bantam division and HE is the one that already has an offer (and committed) as
his JUNIOR year in High School comes to an end.BYU fans commenting
on this story should be ashamed of themselves; and Utah fans responding to the
stupidity should as well. This story is about Mr. Frison. NOTHING
else. Some of you guys really need to get a life to help you understand what is
SLCguyHave you even read the BYU commentary, or are you just
spouting off?Not a single negative comment has been directed towards
the kid, in fact, almost all of the BYU commentary has been a slam at the Utah
fan hypocrisy of evaluating every BYU recruit based solely on the number of
stars next to the recruit's name, while completely abandoning that criteria
whenever its convenient when evaluating Utah recruits.
@slcguyYou're obviously a utah "fan". BYU fans are
mocking utah "fans" and their hypocrisy here, not the kid. I like how
utah "fans" try to twist even that fact.
to Uteanymous 11:22 a.m. Feb. 27What do ALL those schools have in
common? Their players regularly & consistently get drafted by the NFL.
All you posters are lame. It's always gotta be a U vs. Y discussion. We
should all take a minute and realize that this kid was a basketball player up
until about a year or so ago. He's played 1 year of football. He is
obviously very raw, but the Utah coaches saw enough of him to believe he has a
high ceiling. Hard to place "stars" on a guy who has played 1 year and
hasn't been on ANYONE's radars. I give props to Utah's coaches
for finding this guy before he potentially gets discovered during his senior

your own dear Naval friend, who sometimes spews 5 or 6 posts in a row. It's funny that BYU-obsessed Utah fans are so busy whining about BYU fans
introducing a little reality into their stars fest, that they won't even
address the most salient question,"How does Utah expect to
compete in the PAC 10.2 if the Utes are constantly being out recruited by the
big boys of the conference?"To U, it's all about BYU. As long as you've convinced yourself that Utah's recruiting
class is better than BYU's, that's the only thing that matters to U.
Chris--"You BYU fans are going to start claiming to have equal talent
to Alabama if Nick Saban finds an under the radar 0 star guy and offers

that Whitt is as good a coach as Saban?Naval, "Frantic and
emotional". Do you know any more adjectives? Dude, you seem like a positive
guy. I wanna have dinner with you sometime, and just soak in the glow of your
positive nature-----I think this is a great get for
Utah. The kid grew up wanting to be at the U, and Kyle was smart enough to grab
him. He looks like he has great potential, and why wait around for him to
collect "stars" befor he is offered?Good luck kid.
An fyi to utah fans who comment negatively on BYU stories but then get angry
when BYU fans comment negatively on Utah stories and vice versa. You can't
have it both ways. What goes around comes around. Thick skins required here.
I could add many more slogans.Unfortunately that is the ugliness of
back and forth bantering.A solution. Utah people stay with Utah
stories and vice versa for BYU fans. Anger most likely will go away.Another solution. The spoken golden rule.Hope all have a good
Unbelievable the amount of hate-filled comments from BYU fans (or "byu"
fans, as "duckhunter" would infamously say). Come on, guys. Your
obsession and jealousy with everything related to the University of Utah
football is sad and downright pathetic. You really need to spend
more time following your own program and its Quest for Relevance.
Out recruiting byu and beating them on the field doesn't help the Utes
compete in the Pac12. byu is Irrelevant to the Utes, the Pac12 and all other
Major Conferences, and the BCS. Go Utes
Best of luck amigo! The ticket's been punched - now just go to class, do

Kenyon Frison was just invited to The Opening aka Nike Elite Camp. The most
prestigious high school football camp in the country. Its an invite only camp.
Basically only the top 100 players in the country are invited. Don't be
