The US policy is probably one of the worst diplomatic failures recorded. After 50 years of sticking to a policy that has achieved nothing, promoted no peace, has done nothing to hurt those intended to be punished, and retarded the Cuban peoples ability to enjoy any sense of property, we stick to this failed policy hoping that someday it might work. The other 50 years being just flukes.

You can't shun Cuba into compliance. We need to engage in McDonalds or Levi's politics. Through interdependence, we create leverage. We have no leverage. The island nation has survived 50 years with us ignoring it... it can continue to survive another 50 if it needs to.

Hopefully this transition will provide a window, an opportunity for us to create a new path forward, because the current one hasn't done anything for over 50 years.
