Newel Standley you should consider the fact that we ALL know its bad. And tell your wife and kids too, its BAD, real BAD. Then maybe they won't do it (tobacco).

Utah's air quailty is worse than smoking, it contains deadly poisons, and everyone is being FORCING to beath it...where's your outrage?

Texting while driviing is worse than drinking and driving...again, where's your outrage?

Sun tanning is deadly....again, where's the outrage?

or is this really just a Word of Wisdom issue you are upset about?

Re: "Utah's air quailty is worse than smoking . . . ."

I'll tell you where my outrage is -- where completely invalid, unsupportable statements like this are made, and no one calls out the rabid tree-hugger who made it.

Low-information voters hearing these sophomoric, demonstrably false statements over and over, foolishly begin to believe them. Next, they fall easy prey to disingenuous hucksters in the victimization industry.

Ultimately, the danger is, they will cave in to cynical liberal demands to flush freedoms and treasure down that giant liberal toilet, to the benefit of no one but liberal control freaks.

“If the 40,000 women in Utah who are pregnant suddenly started smoking, that would constitute a genuine health emergency,” said Dr. Brian Moench, an anesthesiologist who leads Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, a group that has urged Gov. Gary R. Herbert, a Republican, to declare a public health emergency. “But our levels of air pollution are causing the exact same consequences as if all these women were smoking.”

It's not my "cynical liberal demands", "giant liberal toilet", or "liberal control freaks".

That's an actual quote from Utah medical doctors.

But - yours is the typical Science hating, college drop-out beliveing conservative response.
FYI - Your hero Rush Limbaugh still says tobacco doesn't cause cancer, and is fact GOOD for you.

Don't confuse the issues. Tobacco is the most preventable health threat in the US. Get acquainted with the scientific facts before you try to divert the discussion. As of July 1st, the University of Pennsylvania will not hire anyone who smokes because of the increased medical costs. Their smoking ban is not based on LDS Church doctrine. In fact, Utah has been rather timid in their anti-smoking policies compared with other states like NY and California.

Re: "That's an actual quote from Utah medical doctors."

Actually -- _A_ Utah medical doctor. Use of the plural is unwarranted.

Dr. Moench is considered pretty "out-there," by most colleagues and even some left-leaning greenies. Pulmonologists mostly just snicker behind his back, since his unsupportable, hyperbolic comments make both him and the medical community, in general, appear to be a half-bubble off plumb.

The "group" of docs he claims to represent has never been fully identified, and most believe it to be a tiny "group," indeed, perhaps numbering not more than just the one.

So, if he's your authority -- you may want to return to the drawing board. Whether you do or don't, however, there's still not the slightest objective evidence to substantiate your [and Dr. Moench's] extraordinary claim.

As the most recent proponent of this extraordinary claim, the burden's yours to come forward with the extraordinary evidence to support it.

So?

Ultimately, the danger is, they will cave in to cynical conservative demands to flush freedoms and treasure down that giant corporate Wall Street toilet, to the benefit of no one but overpaid, bonus loving corporate or GOP control freaks.

I don't disagree at all.

I lived in Seattle for 22 years.

Washington States already has:
No Smoking indoor laws,
no smoking in vehicles with children,
Twice the out-of-pocket Premiums for healthcare coverage,
and tobacco taxes 3 times as high as Utah's...

Utah will get there -- 20 years from now.

Whatever.

Please explain why no large Global Corporations relocate or headquarter to Utah given the low taxes, lower cost of living, and Higher level of education?

2 reasons are given --

1. Poor Air Quality
2. Intolerance toward non-Mormons.

But -- #1 is #1 for a valid reason.
