[One possibility would be to make it illegal to pay for porn with Icelandic credit cards.]

Hello, PayPal.

[Another, more controversial, route would be a national Internet filter or a list of website addresses to be blocked.]

Goodbye, usable internet (or Hello, VPN service).

This story is over a week old now, how is DN so slow to report?

There you have it neo-conservatives --

Freedom and pornography,
or
Socialism and no-pornography.

You can't have it both ways.

So... who gets to decide what is and isn't considered "porn?"

Are there rules?

If your art, sculpture, photography or writing is deemed "pornographic" do you have a route of appeal?

Ever seen the sculpture, "The Kiss," by Rodin? How about the novel, "Lady Chatterley's Lover," by D.H. Lawrence?

Who decides? The Iclandic version of Phyllis Schlafly? The Icelandic version of Hugh Hefner? A committee constituting both perspectives? (That would be interesting.)

I can appreciate the sentiment behind this initiative, but I strongly question the wisdom of it.

The article wasn't really clear as to where the opposition is coming from.

Is coming from inside Iceland, or outside?

Why not let Icelanders decide for themselves?

Money?

Why not let sensible Americans try to do the same thing here?

Money.

So which is it?

Having Freedom, and with that freedom no restricting porn,
or
Socialism and censoring, and living in a pornography free society?

FYI - Ultra-cons, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

To "Open Minded Mormon" what you are seeing here is what your ilk is after. Total control of our personal lives.

Iceland is a left leaning government, and now they are seeking to further control the lives of their people.

I say let the free market rule. As others have pointed out, all this ban does is create more business for VPN sites that won't be blocked and will allow access to porn.

You realize that neocons are just liberals pretending to be conservative.

Blocking ALL pornography with violent content is wise.

Period.

Unforotunately it won't even be considered in America until a certain portion of us are wiped out....

Some would say this is merely an issue of "freedom of the press" but there are scientific findings suggesting strongly that Pornography induces a chemical reaction in the brain that is equal in addictiveness to drugs such as heroine and cocaine. Pornography is one of the issues that separates me, as a conservative, from the true libertarians. There are a lot of aspects of the government I want out of the public sphere, but I still feel that there are certain moral considerations that should be regulated by the government, and pornography is one of them. I can be independent and small government enthusiastic all I want, I need help defending my children against a billion dollar industry that wants to trap them in a life destroying addiction.
