Girls in Region 9=absolutely amazing! Cannot believe what a strong presence the
south has brought in the past years and it has continued! Nice work! Best of
luck to all competing next week. What a fun time for us to celebrate such hard
working kids and amazing athletes! Great work!
Regions and coaches and admin get no real say in the UHSAA decisions, other than
the few people that serve on the two committees. And too often those guys are
playing partisan politics, and not worrying about the sport or the kids.As for the comment that the UHSAA is educators, you are FAR from
correct. But even further off was the comment that private sector folks would
go the extra mile to make sense of things. The UHSAA IS private sector, they
are basically contractors for the gov't with very little oversight,
everything they DO is for profit! Part of the reason we HAVE this mess is the
private sector encouraging the state to keep so many teams in the playoffs, as
that increases their cash flow. 4 days per class of teams and fans in various
parts of the state renting rooms and eating out? Pretty good money for low
Heber FYFA -- you are correct in saying that basketball is the only sport that
had the same match ups as last year. That is exactly the reason it is unfair!
The "normal pattern" was thrown out the window. Wasatch boys and girls
should be playing teams from Region 11 this week. Don't mind meeting region
9 teams on a neutral court in quarter finals. Round 1 two years in a row is not
I believe that basketball was the only sport that maintained last years match
ups for the tournaments in boys and girls basketball. All other sports rotated
on the normal pattern established by the UHSAA. Don't go blaming the UHSAA
for every perceived injustice. I would question why basketball coaches?
administrators? region boards? made the change to keep things the same. I
don't know either. Just go out and play the game. To be a state champion
you have to beat every opponent anyway in the tournament. Upsets do happen.
@binghamalumJuan Diego fans may not have complained about playing SC
on the DN website, but they weren't happy about their bad luck and
complained plenty. If the state keeps seeding the same regions against each
other in the 1st rounds, that is wrong and needs to change. I think 9 and 10
faced each other last year as well as this year. This is stupid! Historically,
9/10 have been the 2 best regions in most sports.
Just like usual, tons of Salt Lake love. I wish Davis county would get the love
they deserve, it's not like they've been in the final the last 3 years
or anything. Davis is big, tough and has guards. Fremont can play big and hang
with the best. Layton has a ton of experience on this team with bigs and guards
that can play. Oh then there's the defending 5A champs, who are finding
their stride as they have one of the top players in the state back and now 3
players that can dominate. If these teams played in other regions they would all
be region champs!
First round, only close game will be Viewmont vs Fremont but Viewmont wins....

All I hear from these posts, Is alot of Complaining.Like
The Moose said,Seedings dont mean a whole lot. You still
have to win the game! Juan Diego had to play Snow Canyon First round
last year in the class 3A playoffs, Snow Canyon was #1 ranked in 3AJuan Diego was #2 ranked in 3ASnow Canyon was forced into forfiets, and
has to play in Sandy vs Juan Diego. Did Juan Diego at all, complain
or post hundreds of posts on this website about seeding and unfairness. If your teams good, Show up and WIN THE GAME. Juan Diego lost 3-2 in 9
innings. Did they throw a fit, NO! Sports is not a pat you on
the back because you participated. Its to have winners and Losers and to learn
from lessons in the game. The UHSAA does the best they can, I mean
yes they cant make everyone happy. But understand its public high school,
how much structure can you have. Go Bingham Girls 21-0 with a easy
bracket side. Get another title Rand Rasmussen before you retire.
5A Girl B-Ball 'upper bracket', it ismy understanding that
Cottonwood playsAmerican Fork @ 2:30pm, not Granger
Rankings don't mean squat. You want a better seed. Take care of business
in your region.
If you expect the UHSAA to resemble a professional type organization with
foresight, you must understand these are educators, government employees, not
private sector that will go the extra mile to make sense of things. We need to
privatize our education system for that to happen. Remember the teachers are
union and they have to keep the bad ones and the good ones good elsewhere. The
local districts are even worse; they can't even draw up a bracket, seed
them or figure out how to break ties. Davis County goes strictly by total wins,
disregards the loss column, had they been in charge of the NFL they'd had
SF and Seattle flip for first place since both had 11 wins, but SF had one less
loss because of their one tied game. Some of these people have been in their
field for 30 years and still haven't figured it out. The poor tax payer and
parents have to suffer.
Once again teams in the top 3 in the state meet each other the first day of a 16
team tournament...yes, you have to beat them all but wouldn't seeding make
the tournament more interesting on both sides??? I understand you will still
have complaints with the seeding (in fact everyone will complain about their
seeding spot I understand that) but it would make for a more balanced and
interesting tournament. Either way...Go Rebels!! You will be just fine and
it's always a great game when Panguitch and Rich meet:)
Too bad that the UHSAA allowed 3A basketball to have same first round region
match ups as last year! This has never been done before and is not fair!
Especially to Regions 9 & 10.
