"Let see if I have my facts correct. We still wholeheartedly support the death penalty in Utah, and tolerate 30,000 violent gun deaths every year in the United States, and we are worried about the abortion rate in Russia. Please explain the logic in this reality."

First, it is not the abortion rate in Russia that we are worried about, but the trend in our own country that the abortion rate in Russia forces us to acknowledge.
Second, there is a massive difference between capital punishment for those who have so
egregiously violated the law and the murder of millions of unborn, innocent children.
Third, while nobody likes 30,000 violent deaths by guns, the alternative, an authoritarian state that takes our guns from us by force, is a much worse option. I say it that way, because no other method will significantly reduce the number of violent deaths, as it isn't the law-abiding folks doing the killing, but the criminals (who aren't likely to hand in their guns willingly), and if you don't take the guns from everyone, the criminals will just take whatever is left (remember, they are criminals).
