" ...... Russians are so despondent about the future that they have 30 percent more abortions than births .. "

As Americans become more despondent under the Obama/Liberal regimes, don't be surprised to see the same phenomenon here.

I went to Moscow twice. Everyone rides the subway because it's so cheap and fast. In two months, I only saw 1 pregnant lady. I asked some Russian friends about it. They said exactly what was said in this article. They didn't want to bring kids into the world because it was so tough. I'm not condoning the attitude, just reiterating the article is right on.

They just voted to re-elect him... which either disproves your assertion or says a lot about how lousy a candidate Romney was.

What is sad about our society, is that we prize convenience over human life. I'm not condoning the Russian's attitude at all, just saying that American culture is even more sick than theirs. Makes me wonder how long the hand of providence will protect this once great nation.

@alt,

Or it says how much of our population has bought into the victim mentality where they believe it is Mitt Romney and all other rich people's jobs to pay their bills for them.

Vote Democrat, its easier than getting a job.

And the majority of the people in North Korea worship King Jong Un. Based on your logic, he must be a great person and leader right. Brilliant.

@chris b
really, did the people of north Korea elect him in a free and open election (twice)? Does north Korea have a free press (where even a jack organization like Faux news) can exist? are you really trying to claim there is an actual parallel between the two? really a stretch even by your standards.

This is what Barry and his buddies are wanting America to do. God will not be mocked. The world is in a very sorry state

I spent several years in Russia. While over there I was surprised at the response when a Russian would discover I had seven children. Nearly every time they would say "bogati," which means rich. They love the idea of family, of large families, but it seems to be the system that is preventing it in many ways. Also, the chaotic 90s saw a baby bust, so there are currently fewer people of child-bearing age. The vast country of Russia seems to be slowly but surely being emptied, as is Europe.

Russia is one of the more developed nations on earth and yet people even there have to make decisions we can't imagine in order to get by. We are very fortunate.

Last month you were trying to convince us that all gun violence in America was Quentin Tarantino's fault. Now we're supposed to believe that mankind is going to go extinct unless we start having Mormon-sized families as soon as possible.

What the DN's cause du jour going to be in March?

I am Russian, and I am bucking the trend being a father eight children. The catch is that I live in Utah. Seriously, though, I understand those feelings very very well. I had them myself, I just dealt with them differently. Let me tell you, English was hard to learn, but it was also easy to learn because for me it meant freedom. Every time I heard an English word I did not know I saw myself taking a baby step towards freedom if I learned what it meant and how to use it.

When so many people in a country kill so many children for merely being inconvenient or (using logic that seems too perversely altruistic to make any reasonable sense, given the chosen solution is death) to save the child from a wicked world, it is much, much worse than simply a "demographic disaster". It is proof positive of complete moral decrepitude.

It is never too soon for us to make the necessary corrections.

And that goes for Russia too.

The Demographic Winter is real. A nation that does not have more than 2.1 children per couple have economic disaster 30 years later. Putin is right on this one.

Let see if I have my facts correct. We still wholeheartedly support the death penalty in Utah, and tolerate 30,000 violent gun deaths every year in the United States, and we are worried about the abortion rate in Russia. Please explain the logic in this reality.

@tom in CA

ronald reagan as the gov. of the state of california, signed into law an abortion bill that led to the murder of over 2,000,000 babies.

Yet, republicons continue to genuflect at every opportunity when they refer to ronald reagan.

The double standard continues...

From the article:
"Russia's demographic disaster, Last said, is being exasperated by the fact that abortions are outpacing live births in Russia."

Exasperated or exacerbated? Wrong word or Freudian slip?

BTW, we have the same declining reproduction problem in the United States, albeit to a lesser degree. Because Social Security in the USA is a Ponzi pyramid scheme, ever-increasing numbers of young workers are required to support SS payouts to the retirees and disabled. As the birthrate of the citizenry declines, the only solution is immigrant labor.

Together, contraception, abortion, and women's liberation are the proximate cause of Europe's widespread immigration of African and Middle Eastern peoples. France already hovers around 25% Muslim; other countries are close on France's heels. Europe will be predominantly Muslim by 2030. California is projected to become predominantly Hispanic during 2013.

the Communist Russian government has a policy of no religion and anti family for 50 years and now they wonder why there are no families having children?

atl134,

California,New York, and nine other states have more people on welfare then the workforce. Our current leaders are rich folks who bribe their way into office.

Welfare collectors, and anyone without a HS degree,--shouldn't be allowed to vote.

We'd see an America without the mess we're in.

Russia is an example of liberal leadership. Period.
