A lot could be done by the large corporations that fall into the typical traps of assuming people from prestigious universities are more qualified. We've seen the cheating scandals at those universities. There's no doubt that there are many more cheats that don't get caught.
Why don't we just test people's knowledge and hire their capabilities rather than assume the piece of paper they have or don't have means something significant? Because regular people are doing the hiring and for various reasons don't want to take any chances. Hence $200,000 bachelor of arts degrees.
What about the deathbed confession of the man that had a very successful career as an electrical engineer that confessed his got his degree by a clerical mistake?
