Remember when our leaders concerns, were for our country? We need to avoid entangling agreements with other countries.
When I see this picture accompanying this article, it reminds me of a contemporary in the Army that threw medals and disgraced our uniform of the United States Army when he came back from Vietnam. He has the same smile and expression in this picture. His dad's friends, the Kennedys treated him well over the years and that connection has kept him electable, especially with a Heinz 57 wife and her $$$.
We used to have statesmen in this position. Now we have a longboatman and a longshoreman support as a Secretary of State. Senators used to be statesman, but that has gone by the wayside, also. We are seeing our government's elected and appointed servants move down the slippery slope of power and prestige.
Gosh, worf. The last I knew, the job of the State Department and the Secretary of State is to find ways to communicate with and strengthen the relationships our country has with other countries which feel the same way. Making a few phone calls must be cheaper than sending over an army to do a little "regime change", right?
JWB wants statesmen in the State Department. I'm not sure what that means, though in JWB's case I suspect it really boils down to stateman being defined as "a guy from MY party". Maybe next time.
