If Andy still sees some potential in Alex, there's hope that Alex can still be a starting NFL QB.

The downside is becoming part of another rebuilding project could be the death knell for Alex's NFL career.

This can't be true. Andy Reid is a BYU legacy program genius and Ducky has told us that Alex is a hack.

Be careful what you wish for. Alex going to a team that only won 2 games last season could effectively seal Alex's "legacy" as one of the biggest #1 draft pick busts in NFL history.

I don't think this is as big of a rebuild job as people would assume. Mind you, the Chiefs were obviously very bad this year. But they have half a dozen Pro-Bowlers on their roster. Smith would have one of the top RBs in the league to hand off to. There is a lot of talent on that defense. Dwayne Bowe, if he returns, is one of the most underrated WRs in the league. They'll have a #1 pick, and with Smith on board they could potentially draft Joeckel to be a franchise pass-protecter. QB play was their primary issue this past season, along with injuries. Most experts I've listened to think the Chiefs are the team poised for the quickest turnaround out of the league's worst finishers. I don't think this any sort of death knell at all for his career. In fact, if he goes and has success in KC it could actually redefine his career in a positive way. Many think Harbaugh resurrected him and he was a beneficiary of his system. This would prove he is a great QB on his own.

Dear Chip Kelly,

Please bring either Smith or Flacco to Philadelphia.

Take a look at Alex Smith's QB rating before he got benched this season and then tell me how he's a draft bust. And you've got no room to talk about draft busts - your school has Ty Detmer.

Reid was terrible last year in Philly, and so were the Chiefs. I can't blame AS for wanting to start and/or play, but I agree that the Chiefs thing could end up a disaster (see Matt Cassel). He'd be better off staying and backing up Kaep than killing his career like Cassel has.

Valid point about Smith's performance, but seriously? Ty Detmer was a 9th round pick, not 1st overall.

Ty Detmer wasn't a #1 draft pick; he simply wasn't big enough to be highly successful at the NFL level, but Ty college stats make Alex's pale by comparison.

Ty was taken in a later round, but lasted 14 years in the NFL mainly as a backup QB because of his football IQ and coaching abilities.

Hardly a draft bust, like Alex, because he was never expected to be a premier NFL QB as a #1 draft pick is expected to be.

Compare Alex's stats to Roger's and you'll see just how big of a draft bust Alex has been.

At least one Cougar sees the light. Reid and Smith could be a good fit.

This is impossible! Hasn't Reid been reading these threads? Didn't he spend time at quarterback university aka byu? He should know that Alex Smith is the worst qb of all time and wasn't nearly as good as Ty Detmer. That's why we read and comment on every article about him. Because of how bad he is.

Of all the teams in need of a free agent QB, KC definitely seems like the best chance for success. Not only are there the guys stonewall mentioned, but Tony Moeaki is a very underrated young TE who could really help a QB. Not only that, but the defense has gone from the team's biggest liability to possibly its best asset. They have one great receiver in Bowe, and some young emerging ones, as well. The keys in turning them around will be offensive line development, quarterback play and coaching. Sound similar to another situation Alex was in? Definitely not a zero risk situation, but miles better than the messes in Arizona, Philly, etc.
