Remember when barack said if he was elected the first time that he would cut the deficit in half?
It increased.
This guy's understanding and handling of the economy is similar to how a turtle would handle it.
Unbelievable! Some are still blaming Bush.
Wait, if the Bush tax cuts worked wouldn't there BE no jobless? I mean, I thought the wealthy, with tax paid tax cuts, were supposed to be CREATING jobs?
Let's go back further. If trickle-down economics worked, would we need the Bush tax cuts?
Republican plans, simply do not work. We have tried trickle down theory for almost 16 years, and all we have done is added to the debt:

'While doing so, Bush promised prosperity and growth, but the nation got neither.'
Now, giving Obama half the time to fix the problem, it is 'his' fault.
Let me remind you, Obama has continued the Bush tax cuts.
So, when Republicans say don't 'blame Bush' they are really saying they don't want to take responsibility for the failed policies.

Fiscal year 2012 had a smaller deficit than fiscal year 2009 so it decreased. The detail you're missing is that the fiscal year starts in October. 2009's budget year started October 2008 under Bush. Obama hasn't cut the deficit in half but the deficit is around 25-30% lower than it was in fiscal year 2009 and our 2009->2012 deficit reduction is the fastest rate of deficit reduction in the past half century of US history.
I wish that everyone would stop criticizing our current President for this economy. It's not his fault. It's the fault of the previous administration....You know, the guy that occupied the White House the past four years.
It's good that our country can start fresh with Obama, because the previous administration had 4 years to fix things and they utterly failed to improve things. Really, how much time did they think they would need?
If my business continued to perform poorly for 4 years, I would bring fresh minds and people in to change things up. It's great we can start with a new administration after the past four years....er....hmmm.
Will someone please list the economic successes of Obama? In the next four years, will we see lower deficits, debt, and unemployment,--or get more excuses? Will home prices, infrastructure costs, and inflation come down? Will we have a budget plan to inform us of how our taxes are spent?
Will American soldiers still be on foriegn soil?

Woah, woah, hold on there cowboy. I see what you did there. That statement is ignorant of history at best and disingenuous at worst. 2009 includes the "stimulus" package. Remember those "shovel-ready jobs" that weren't ready that Obama promised? The deficit jumped from $459 Billion in 2008 to $1413 Billion in 2009. Almost the entire difference came from the "stimulus". I also noted how proud you were that those deficit numbers came down. That they went down at all was due to the Republicans and a few very brave Democrats keeping the "American Jobs Act" from passing. You know, the bill that would have cost $447 billion, and given $50 billion to subsidize people not working.
Do not pick and choose your statistics. The average yearly deficit under Bush (2001-2008) was $250 billion. The average yearly deficit under Obama (2009-2012) is $1,277 billion. No, spending under Obama is out of control. To argue otherwise ignores the data.
From another poster-
2000, total direct revenue generated in the US was $2.025T. Because of a few factors(dot.com bubble and 9/11) revenues dropped to $1.782T in 2003. Enter Bush tax cuts. Revenues increased from $1.782T in 2003 to $2.568T in 2007(highest revenue year in the history of the US by the way). The housing bubble sparked a decline in revenues that bottomed out in 2009 at $2.105T. It has steadily increased to $2.449T in 2012. The problem is spending, not taxes.
Granted there are a lot of factors that go into revenues and you can't prove causation through tax cuts, but tax revenues did very well under the tax cuts and peaked in 2007. Had it not been for the economic collapse instigated by the housing bubble(both parties to blame, but Bush warned about the instability of Fannie and Freddie long before the collapse) I would bet that revenues would be even higher today. Heck, even Obama admitted it wasn't about revenues, it was about "fairness". There are not enough wealthy people in this country to support the less wealthy. You just never get there.
Pagan,
Unemployment dropped below 5% following the tax cuts, it was only after barney frank caused the housing market to collapse did unemployment rise.
Quoting a liberal think tank somehow give you credibility? Not so.
Of course the repubs opposed BO’s “jobs” bills. With good reason. His porkulus FAILED, the recession ended before 5% of it was spent (Source NY TIMES!!!!) why waste MORE money on schemes that don’t work?
I see you failed to mention ANY of the repub jobs bills BO opposed.
Since BO continued the bush tax cuts, why are you denigrating them?
Atl 134
The 2009 budget came from a dem house. The ONLY reason deficits are decreasing is because the repub house won’t spend as much as BO wants.
According to the treasury, gross federal debt increased $4.9 trillion in bush’s 8 years; it took BO only 3 yrs 2 months to accumulate that much debt. Yes, PLEASE keep up the comparisons, we LOVE pointing out how BO is MUCH worse then bush
BTW, unemployment is still HIGHER than when BO took office. Four years of failure and counting.
