We dont let bank robbers keep the money they steal if they go undetected and don't commit other major crimes for a couple years.

We dont let child kidnappers keep the children if they go undetected and don't commit other major crimes for a couple years.

Illegal immigrants are criminals and should be treated as all criminals are.

We dont let criminal parents keep living with their children when they make seriously wrong criminal decisions. Therefore, cry me a river if an illegal immigrant make a seriously wrong and criminal decision to illegally enter our country.

At this point, the best thing Obama could do is to keep his nose out of it and let these Senators put together a plan that may finally succeed in passing both Chambers of Congress. The President is the most polarizing politician out there that can "mess it up" if he starts dictating the terms of how HE envisions immigration reform.

Chris B, are you saying you want to fine employers for the money they illegally made while employing undocumented workers?

Now that would stop the practice immediately and we wouldn't have to worry about it.

Why do illegal immigrants come here?:

* find work and send money home for support
* get away from corrupt leaders, and laws
* get away from poverty

The problem is we're electing the same kinds of leaders these people are leaving behind.

Re: Worf

No, we're not.

Re: VST

That would be a lack of leadership, so he'd get nailed for that. He can't do anything right in the eyes of some in this country (see Worf), so he might as well work on something he cares about. Better to take flak for something you believe in than for sitting on the sidelines.

Boy, it sure helps when all we can do is call names, point fingers and refuse to even have an open discussion, since there is no way anyone else is right, under any circumstances...

I am impressed with the leadership of these 8 Senators. They have spurned the extreme from both parties and proposed some reasonable solutions to this situation. Refreshing isn’t it. Every citizen of this country should be ashamed of the illegal alien situation. Through the governments inaction we are as close to slavery as this we can get. It is a stain upon our land and leaves us cursed with arrogant hostilities towards our fellow men.

Both parties have been hijacked by the extremes. The 80% of us who are not on the fringes have been left without representation. These 8 Senators bring hope to those of us who are not on the extremities of politics. I plead with the extremists...let this Senate process move forward! Put an end to this politically sanctioned inequality and inhumane situation.

Claudio--you can't see how our leaders live in wealth while citizens become increasingly more regulated while sinking further into poverty? Show me where I'm wrong. I want to be.

Wait a few years, and we'll be immigrating to Canada.

Worf,

By all means, move to Canada. It's a coward's solution, something you and your friend Patriot, seem to favor as you so often repeat it on these threads. Rather than complain about things, I actually get out and work. I serve my community. I take care of my family. I try to make the world around me better.

What do you do, aside from making snide one-liners and continuing to spout the lies about the president's religion, birthplace, political beliefs, etc.?

I wish the president had the same passion about encouraging the senate to pass a budget. While immigration is certainly an important issue, the government's failure to set a budget is putting the country on the fast track to bankruptcy.

Here comes the most important question of all: What do we do with the 11 million people already here?
And the answer from the politician and the preacher is, You can't possibly ask them all to leave.
The trouble with that answer is that we've never really asked them to leave. Those same politicians and preachers have fought for the microphone and promoted all sorts of schemes to PREVENT enforcement of the law. Who in their right mind would leave when no one has expected them to do so?
Requiring employers to validate work papers has never been implemented. The use of fake forms of ID is rampant. Why even in Utah where 140,000 illegals are believed to reside they have stolen over 50,000 SSNs from our children. Who knows what we'd find if we actually cross-checked the available databases?
The police fear an allegation of racial profiling just to ask for papers.
We've rolled out the welcome mat with the DPC. And perhaps we will issue them Utah work permits.
WHO HAS ASKED THEM TO LEAVE? No one.

Claudio,

If the President does what you propose, it will fractionally divide ANY bipartisan efforts to get an immigration reform bill passed (see the first two sentences of the comment by "WhyNotThink" above). Nothing will be passed with that kind of an approach.

Obama needs to leave Congress alone and let them bring together a plan.

Claudio--be honest, and tell me what lie I spouted. Show me where there is less poverty today then 4, 8 ,12,or 16 years ago.

Explain how a sixteen trillion dollar debt, high unemployment, fast & furious, and WMDs to Egypt are a lie. Then you can criticize me, and I'll stop.

Like some others, I too wasn't born in this country, and immigrated here,--but am very patriotic. I don't want to see this brought down, like so many others have.
