Obama is absolutely truthful when he states "America's possibilities are limitless."
However the possibilities for evil acts to continue the destruction of our country are more likely than a miraculous course change away from his destructive policies back to the road of fiscal responsibility, a strong defense and a bright future for our children.
Some may celebrate, but today is a sad day in the decline of our nation.
However, there is cause for celebration today. After all, it IS "National Squirrel Appreciation Day," as with every January 21s since 2001, courtesy of the National Wildlife Federation.
Help the middle class? Well, Mr. Obama, they need jobs. J.O.B.S. And you don't create jobs by hoisting Obamacare mandates on business owners and raising payroll taxes.
But, how would you know that?
The decline of our nation people keep talking about.
End of the Iraq war.
Healthcare reform.
Exit date for Afghanistan where before there was none.
Jobs bills denied in the House.
And the death of Osama Bin Laden.
I do not think that word means, what you think it means.
America's possibilities ARE limitless...unless you're trying to keep a small business afloat in post-Obamacare America. Then you'll quickly see how limited you really are.
I think it's wonderful that the Deseret News provides a forum for unpatriotic sore-losers.
It really helps cement the poor reputation that Utah has amongst intelligent Americans.
On this day I couldn't be more proud to be American, and I couldn't be more embarrassed to be a Utahn.
Thanks Deseret News for showing "The real Utah"!
Well, we see that Obama has dropped 'Hussein' from the Inauguration Ceremonies. What's with that?
I was genuinely moved by the dignity and power of Obama's inaugural speech. Congratulations to a great American and a great president. I'm genuinely puzzled by my Mormon neighbors whose hatred and contempt for this fine man are boundless. Ironic, isn't it, for people who claim to be followers of the gentle Christ?
@Miss Piggie
Maybe because he is tired of people like you commenting about his given name. He didn't choose his name, just as I'm pretty sure you didn't choose yours. Sounds like a 4th grade bully on the playground to make fun of someone's name.
@Pagan
Obamacare was (and is) opposed by the majority of Americans...and it does not solve America's healthcare/financial woes. In fact, the CBO estimates that the bill adds to the burden.
It makes me laugh that you tout the bill as a good thing.
@Irony Guy
Figuratively throwing stones at your Mormon neighbors for their shortcomings isn't very neighborly. Ironic, isn't it, that you can do that while being moved by the "dignity" of Obama's speech.
@CHS 85:
"Maybe because he is tired of people like you commenting about his given name."
Nothing wrong with 'Hussein.' Other important guys were named Hussein such as Saddam Hussein. It's of Arabic origin, means 'good, small handsome one' and is a prominent name in Shiite Islam.
"He didn't choose his name..."
Well, he certainly did choose to not us it in the ceremony, for some strange reason.
"Sounds like a 4th grade bully on the playground to make fun of someone's name."
Take the chip off your shoulder. Hussein is a good name representing well the Muslim religion. What's so wrong with that? However, I don't think Obama countenances what Islam adherents have been up to in the world these days. Perhaps he's merely trying to remove himself from all that. We can only guess. In any event, he dropped the name in the ceremony and it's certainly within his rights to do so.
Here's what you get with Obama in the White House:
- Obama's 1st-term approval rating among lowest of post-WWII presidents... Only Carter, Ford Fared Worse...
- Unemployment rate same today as it was when Obama first took office...
- Gallon of gas: 20 Jan 09 -- $1.84; 21 Jan 13 -- $3.26.
- National deficit -- $1 trillion per year.
- National debt -- up by $5 trillion... More than all other presidents put together.
@Miss Piggie. Since today's swearing in was not official and yesterday's was (as required by the constitution,) you may be reassured that he did, indeed, include his middle name, Hussein, in the oath of office.
Get informed before you write.
This forum is a microcosm of why the republican party continues to slide from prominence in this country. Regardless of your political persuasion this was a great speech filled with hope and belief in the greatness of America. Why can those on the right not bring themselves to admit that this man has done anything right ever? Is it racism, or just a complete lack of tolerance by the right for anyone who disagrees with them or both? The President has an approval rating around 50% the republicans in congress have a single digit approval rating. Other than the far right, the rest of America is tired of continuous hate and obstructionism of the republican house. I hope that the republicans will come to the table work with the President to solve problems, otherwise we will have to wait till the midterm elections and see another major defeat for the far right in the house and the senate.

I guess this means sometimes he likes it and sometimes he doesn't.

My bad... Didn't watch. Tuned in but... I don't know... started feeling brackish and queasy. Don't know why. Besides, I had to spend the time working my tax return where I had to add a couple of $thou in penalty as I didn't sign up for Obamacare.
I did catch the part where he says he wants to finish what he started... Socialism, wealth redistribution, etc.
Miss Piggie, you are not telling the truth. You did not have to pay any penalty on your 2012 tax return for not "signing up" for Obamacare. Telling lies is a big no no, or didn't your mama teach you right?
We as decent human beings need to help the poor and elderly - the US government needs to stay out of it, because government help has been a miserable failure when it comes to charitable acts.
While climate change may or may not hamper our children's future, the financial burdens of the Bush and Obama generation absolutely will harm their future.
How are we doing in fixing those immigration problems? Ending wars, torture, illegal detentions? Getting people to work and be productive rather than collect an unemployment check for 99 weeks?
Why can this man not focus on any real problems? Perhaps because rather than solving problems in term one, he found out that non-stop pandering was an easier path to re-election. Why not keep that up for term two, perhaps his wife will then be elected to really finish what they started?
@Fred44
"Regardless of your political persuasion this was a great speech filled with hope and belief in the greatness of America."
I think you just nailed the problem: People are tired of great speeches filled with hope and belief followed by inaction, broken promises, and increased burdens on the middle class.
Sorry Fred...I can't feed my family with great speeches.
Mitt, where are you? Re-count, please.
Piggie, what is your preoccupation with this guys middle name? I mean really, who cares? You added thousands to your taxes because you didn't sign up for "obamacare"? Really? Hokay. . .
