Corn Belt legislators pushed for the subsidy as a means of rewarding political constituents. Ethanol production is not efficient with respect the amount of energy required to produce one gallon of ethanol. The economic consequences of the subsidy has been disastrous for Mexico and other countries depending on corn as a food. End the subsidy!
