Just a wild guess, Mr. Minert, but I suspect you voted for Mr. Hatch. Now you are experiencing buyer's remorse. But there is a no return policy at the government store.

What we should do is elect him again.

You had a chance to elect someone else.

Instead, you chose to vote the same way as you have done for years and years.

Maybe next time you'll go with Scott Howell.

"He won't lead in controlling federal spending, and he won't follow Utah voters' values of living within their means."

Doesn't Utah lead the nation in bankruptcy filings?

Perhaps instead of assuming that our citizens live within their means because the predominant religion preaches this we should actually do some research.

Granted, the lack of action on meaningful spending cuts shows a clear lack of leadership. And we must recognize that the Social Secuirty tax increase to former levels is going to be burdensome. However, the much larger income tax rate increase, other tax increases, and spending cuts that would have occured if this legislation had failed would have been devastating for everyone - employers, employees, retirees, families, the American economy, and the world economy.

Although the process, and the bill itself, was ridiculous and severely flawed, the overall benefit outweighs the negatives. I applaud those, including Senator Hatch, who voted in favor of the American public. I have nothing but distain for those who voted against this bill and placed political gamesmanship above harsh reality.

I love that those on the left spy on all the voters and know exactly who voted for whom, but claim they oppose the Patriot Act, except when it is Obama expanding its reach.

Independent in Utah has a whole different meaning than anywhere else in the country. Elsewhere is means not needing or relying on others. Here is means that you rely on like minded thinkers to rail against any perceived majority.

In my mind the only way the Senior Senator (in more ways than one) could show leadership would be to have given a speech before the Cliff vote that would later be printed as an op-ed in papers here. The gist of the speech would be why he was going to vote for the bill and then proceed to tell the truth that no other politician of either party is willing to do. The "truth" is that calling the Bush tax cuts "now permanent" is a pipe dream of gargantuan proportions and here is why? The debt situation is so great at present (even without future deficits) that shutting down the government entirely for a year would not fully solve the problem. Hence the only option, other than anarchy or moving to Canada is for the taxes of all Americans to go up whether by raising rates or eliminating deductions. The longer we think otherwise the further lost we become....then Hatch would truly be a statesman and not just another political hack.

I agree with this letter. This is exactly what I feared would happen with Sen. Hatch. His "leadership" slogans were deceptive, empty rhetoric.

Come on, Senator, you no longer have to worry about getting re-elected. Rather than trying to be cordial and getting along with your senate buddies, it's time to stand on PRINCIPLE. It's time for the "tough old bird" to pound the table, speak up, and demand policies that will turn us back from this reckless tax/borrow/spend binge. And to KEEP doing it. And to VOTE that way.

Senator, you told us that this final term would be "the best doggone 6 years [we've] ever seen." You have the ability to accomplish a lot of lasting good, but your vote this week was pathetic and inexcusable.

No one should be surprized by this. In my opinion he has been one
of the weakest Senators Yrah has ever elected. He is a hypocrite. When he defeated Frank Moss
He said 18 years is too long to serve as a Senator. Then he found the oerks so great he decided tgat was poltical
Malarky and keot coming back to the people's trough. We should vote them all out
And start over with a whole new bunch. After all, if you keep on doing what you are doing you will keep on getting what you are getting.

Huh?

So you would rather have voters ignore what their elected officials are voting on?

Wow.

No wonder why the right wing is trashing our Democracy. They despise citizens actually paying attention to what the government is doing.

It was the required vote, unless you want to trash the economy like the tea party. The tea party is done, even Hatch now sees that.

You that don't like what Hatch did. What would you have done. Pulled a Tea Party and let us return to the tax rates under the Clinton years? That would have been okay with me, but I suspect that most of you are pretty happy with the way it came out.

Sen. Hatch, do Utahns a favor and resign.

=============

This is hilarious.
Senator Hatch was just re-elected for a 7th straight term by the same blind lemmings by 70%.

Chances are MOST Republicans who complain about the elderly Senator - VOTED for him.

So who's really to blame --
Senator Hatch?
or Those who put him there?

Forward...

Utah Voters should continue to re-elect hatch.

Eventually he will get around to leadership...

I voted 3rd party like I always do. Hatch is just as bad as the democrats.
