Piece is not the abscence of war. As duty to country to defend freedom and to protect one weak country from strong country it is justifiable to enter a war. Ancient Israel did. Good thing we stopped Hitler. Nice if there was no war. However when there are ruthless dictators sometmes it is necessary.

Peace was no less a noble cause if your conscientious objection involved moving to Nelson, B.C. during the vietnam war.

Peace is nothing but an elusive dream according to repubs. Even if we were to invade Iran and North Korea right now the repubs would find some other evil enemy who was seeking our destruction. We'd have to hurry up and invade them too before they destroyed our country.

In reality, our #1 enemy is ourselves. We are spending ourselves in oblivion in defense spending. We pay for systems which don't work, jets which even the Pentagon doesn't want, wasteful products which we don't need, and nations who will forever need our handouts.

We can't afford to spend nearly 5x more than China.

Throwing more money into the DOD isn't going to make us any safer.

Although, cutting the Defense Budget sure will make us less in debt and will aid us in the economic war which countries like Brazil, China, India, etc are beating us at.

Joseph Smith and the rattlesnakes,
and Jesus of Nazereth --
When controned by Roman centurians, Peter draws a sword to defend and to fight.
Jesus tells him to put it away --
Those who live by the sword, also die by the sword.

Pretty big words there higv
I'm curious - what branch of the Military you served in.
I'm a veteran, are you?

The resaon I ask is because 9 times out of 10, big taking warmongers have NEVER been to war.
Just like their AM radio entertainers who talk big, and carry a little stick.

Trust me --
War is hell(-o) on earth.

It's NEVER the first and best option.

Joseph Smith and the rattlesnakes is consistant with
Jesus and Peter,
who drew his sword in denfense from Roman centurians and was told to -
Put it away,
Those who live by the word, die by the sword.

I curious,
What branch of the Military did you serve in?

The reason is 9 times out of 10 war mongers like Limbuahg, Hannity and Beck and theire listeners NEVER have served, let alone finished college.

I'm a Veteran,
I detest war, even when it's defending womone and children here at home.

Let alone attacking and commiting offesnsive ones over natural resources (oil) in the Middle East.

Despite all the other reasons for fighting wars, all wars are fought for economic reasons. Either to gain or protect an economic advantage in the competition for the wealth of the world.

Civil wars occur because of the oppression of the ruling group or between two or more commercial entities within the same country. Our next civil war in the USA will be fought for the same reasons as the previous civil war.

Immigrants in the current case and salves in the previous being the cheap labor issue between two or more commercial groups struggling for power. The people are in between and will do most of the dying.

The notion that our military fights for our freedom is only true to the extent that without their defense of our current masters, we will get new ones.

My hope is that by understanding the real nature of war we may have better luck at ending them.

Didn't it take a war to free the slaves in America, another war stop the Nazis from murdering Jews, and to give France and many other European's country and freedom back to them? How about Obama's undeclared war in Libya to get rid of a murdering dictator there? There is only one good reason for war: freedom!

I disagree.
The Book of Mormon tells us Captain Moroni's banner or Title of Liberty states;

"In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children."

BTW - I'm still waiting for you and higv's veteran status,
and explaining how attacking Afghanistan and Iraq had anything to do with Captain Moroni's Title of Liberty.

and FYI - Obama never sent one American to fight in Libya, and the Cruise missile attacks in Libya were under U.N. and NATO command - not American.

airnaut. Surely if the Libyans were worthy of being liberated from a murdering dictator by our military, so were the Iraqis by forces from many nations combined. President Bush correctly stated after 9/11 that we were fighting an ideology existing within many countries, not just one country. And by the way, we are still fighting them, Benghazi ring a bell? Obama may not be at war with them, but they are at war with us, still. We went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan for the same reason we went to war in the last century with Japan and Germany, to defeat our enemies who attack us and will continue to do so. We found bin Laden hiding in Pakistan proving that President Bush was right. You know, those guys who have been attacking us for decades and flew those airplanes into our buildings and murdered over 3,000 innocent people!

By the way, from your own quote of Captain Moroni's banner; freedom was the word he used as did I. Freedom from what? Freedom from being attacked, perhaps, just like we have been? Gee, amazing isn't it?

Mountanman.

Without going into the particulars of WWII, our military has been engaged in war all over the globe for the last 60 years. Since WWII can you point out any freedom that came about by our winning a war? Or for that matter can you point out any war that our military was declared the winner.

I read on Latter day Conservative some people that were against war putting words in Captain Moronis mouth. Why did Britian beg the US to help them in World war II? Why did Roosevelt go to Moroco. You can't appease a lying dictator. To free people from oppresion war may be necessary. Though never desirable for decent people.

People like Moroni and most good people in our government don't enjoy war but will go as a last result to preserve freedom and our prosperity when we have a national interest. I never been in military though I know several people that have and am grateful for there service.

"We went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan for the same reason we went to war in the last century with Japan and Germany, to defeat our enemies who attack us and will continue to do so." With the exception that Al Queda wasn't in Iraq..and Germany was in Poland..France etc.

So then you are admitting GW Bush and the Republicans were flat out WRONG for attacking and invading Iraq?

Or feel it's justified and meets the definition of "Last resort" only when it's someone else's kid, and keeps your gas under $5 a gallon, and Congress never needs to figure out exactly how to pay for all of it, but instead LOWERS taxes?

I went into the Military as a solid Republican,
I came out a bleeding-heart Liberal Anti-Republican from all the lies, deciet and pure garbage the GOP fed me for 8 years.

Wrong again....

In fact --

Mormon and Moroni both were so hesitant to NOT go to war,
That they waited to be attack by the Lamanites not once, not twice -- but THREE times BEFORE they ever committed going into conflict.

Fast forward to America's Conservatives - many in fact who profess Mormonism...
Even the very elect are being decieved...

Remember,
The final ending of the once righteous Nephites,
Who went on the OFFENSE,
Who attacked BEYOND their Boundariaes,
Who didn't just fight for peace -- but wanted to fight to the bitter end, seeking total annilation of their enemies.

As Open Minded Mormon has already pointed out --
Christ himself told us what would happen:
He who fights by the sword, dies by the sword.
(or gun, or Nukes, or what have you)

BTW - I'm also a veteran.

War is the LAST option -- always has been, always will be.

If someone robs my property or attacks my family I will prevent once. Moroni when there was not war prepared for attacks, That is what our military does in peacetime prevents. Thing is Good people don't want war but will to protect there families and other innocents from people like Hitler. Why did we fight in Vietnam and Korea and not Russia. Freedom is worth more than life. That is why defensive war is sometimes necassary as long as there is evil in the world.
