"We all know that BYU has a bigger fan base than Utah."
So let me submit that it is actually the anti-BYU fanatics who look and sound ridiculous for railing against that poll, while simultenously admitting that it is basically true

. . meanwhile, the grown-ups in the room wonder with amusement why the children seem so intent on getting some other kids to cry "uncle."

Really. This is is very minor stuff from any angle, but then it doesn't take much to get certain nameless posters irritated. I'm not sure what fuels the insatiable desire to shoot holes in even a hint of a whisper of a suggestion of anything positive about BYU. To say "BYU has a sizeable national following" is basically true, isn't it? Do I care about the specific rankings or the methodology behind them? Nah. No matter what you conclude about this "study," it doesn't change anything.

And I love the guy that wags his finger at Rock for lazy, unethical journalism. Whoah; relax, brah. The "BYU is kinda popular" mini-story consisted of a few lines in what is obviously intended to be a puff piece in the first place. Save the stern too-strident-by-99% lectures for something more important, like . . I don't know . . a column about fun Family Home Evening activities. Now, off you go, children . .

What the commoncensus poll tells me is that BYU has a smattering of fans distributed all around the country like few other programs. It's not as impressive to me that BYU was in the top ten in DFW, as it is that they got votes in pretty much every area of the country, including SEC country.
