Say it is an opinion...it is fact.

If you think about the mission of Jesus Christ, the message He tried to impart to EVERYONE was, "Be good to one another!" Whether you're Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Buddhist or whatever religious philosophy you subscribe to, the message applies to EVERYONE, and it's a GOOD one! If everyone were to be good to one another, this world would become a Heaven on Earth! We would focus on our similarities, rather than on our differences. We would be more loving towards each other, rather than choosing to hate or discriminate. We wouldn't feel the need to fight or try to take from someone else something that isn't ours. We would want to share the bountiful blessing with our fellow human beings, rather than hoarding or being selfish. If Christmas were to become a "daily habit," rather than an annual celebration, I think Jesus, himself, would look down, smile, and say, "Wow! They finally GET it!"

President Monson said in his latest 1st Presidency message that to have the spirit of contention is not from God This is also the words of Christ when visiting the western hemisphere as the resurrected Lord...."the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another."

The people of the Book of Mormon found that it was better to preach the Gospel among the most wicked part of those who belonged the secret band of robbers and murderers and were thus able to eliminate them as a factor in their society.
Good luck, all you new, and younger than ever before, full time missionaries.

Very well said and the message of the article is beautiful. As a personal confession – and I do not mean this to be confrontational – I wish the Christian ethic was the primary message all the time. But when the message quickly turns to magic, myth and grandiose explanations of the after (and pre) life, it loses me as quickly as the Santa Claus explanation did when I was around 8 years old.

It’s sad to me that Christianity’s primary focus seems to be not on how to live but rather on what to believe. And I wonder if this is why, in our scientific age, it has lost its hold on so many. Although no doubt the desire to live a sinful life plays a part too.

Again, this is not meant as a flame… I simply get a little sad reading articles like this because it makes me think of possibilities and what could have been had we not mythologized this amazing teacher of Love.
