Cerberus spokesperson: "We are investors, not statesmen or policy makers...
It is not our role to take positions..."What a remarkable
statement. In other words, an investor has no moral stake in what his or her
money is used for. How convenient for one's conscience. What is
an investor? An investor is someoe who finds a particular enterprise appealing
enough that they will give that enterprise their money in the hopes of
furthering its development and getting a share of the profits in return. How
can investment in a firm not be interpreted as a vote in support of that
firm's product? How can the investor be divorced from the moral element of
the product? It is as if someone asked me to front him some cash so
he could buy a gun to mug people with, and then I denied any responsibility for
the robberies because all I did was invest money in a criminal venture, I
didn't rob anyone myself.
