This is perhaps the best case out there to show just how political and anti-Obama the Republican party has become. The ACA contains so many conservative ideas that it is in fact to the right of what both Nixon and Bob Dole proposed as antidotes to a single-payer system. And since the SC has decoupled Medicaid expansion from the ACA it is even more conservative.
So many of the past conservative stalwarts, including Saint Reagan, wouldn't have a chance of being elected (or more accurately, surviving a primary) by the far right party calling itself Republican today.
hmmm, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
If someone could figure out a better hybrid system, that would be great. Working in healthcare I've already seen some negative ripples in the water. Such as the changes to hospital and doctor office reimbursement, including payment for predetermined length of stays for certain conditions.
The system is imperfect, but I don't know if this plan will make things better.
