"I understand that in athletics right now BYU has the upperhand, overwhelmingly so, and it makes it hard for utah "fans" to make decent retorts, but they still try. You guys just need to quit whining and have fun with how it goes BOTH directions."
At least you're starting to admit that the comments go both directions on these threads ... and I completely agree, there are always those on each side that are a little too blinded by their school colors.
As for BYU having the overwhelming upperhand ... I can only surmise you're talking about ALL sports. If that's the case then I don't think Ute fans can argue with you, being that the Utes have major improvements to make in their smaller athletic programs outside of gymnastics, skiing and maybe swimming and womens bball/volleyball.
But if you're talking about football then you know we're all laughing at you ... we're all aware of the recent head to head numbers. Basketball ... sure I'll give you that based on the last 7 years, but we saw how close that was this year - at the marriott center no less. So overwhelming?? hmmm.
I think we can all agree, by the posts on this tread, that BYU fans are taking the rivalry "break" too hard.
I find it ironic that BYU fans are calling us cowards while they refuse to play Utah State home-and-home.
Even with Fresno the 2014 Schedule is brutal (most likely 6 ranked teams):
* Pac-12 road games: Michigan, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA
* Pac-12 home games: Idaho State, Fresno, Arizona, Oregon, USC, Washington State
Go UTES!!
From a college football fan's perspective (not some of the trolls I've seen here) it is inexcusable to not play the BYU/Utah game but instead play Fresno. Fresno isn't a bad team, but I thought the reason Utah couldn't be bothered with the rivalry game is because they had other commitments with the Big 10. There is no good way to spin this. Shame on Chris Hill and the University of Utah. If there was an opportunity to keep the rivalry going, you should have made it happen. Absolutely weak.
@motorbike
Yes all sports and yes overwhelming. Of course if you are going to claim utah getting close to BYU in a basketball game, "at the Marriott Center no less" proves that those two programs are somehow close then you cannot in any way claim utah football superiority. Or does a 3 point game at res somehow show us something different than a 3 point win a the MC?
@duckhunter
I didn't realize we were now talking about all athletic teams between the two schools now. Kind of a lame comparison since there are a handful of sports that Utah doesn't participate in like men's volleyball and soccer but if that makes you feel better about school I guess go with it.
I do find it ironic that you don't like to talk about certain programs body of work. For example, in the last seven years of byu's dominance in men's basketball, they only have what 4 NCAA tournament victories? That is nothing to brag about. You also talk about the football teams 10 win seasons and top 25 finishes. Again when you look closer and realize that a number of those wins are against pathetic teams its just not that impressive. The cougs do have a national championship, but 1984 was a very long time ago in the world of college football.
In the modern BCS era Utah has built a good name for themselves and the whole school is now seeing the benefit with the big conference money starting to come in. The future on the hill is bright.
Go Utes!
Thought Michigan replaced BYU?
As to all the BYU whiners. I prefer a good Malbec. Could you all whine more like an Argentinian? And can someone please pass the cheese and crackers.

"In the modern BCS era Utah has built a good name for themselves..."
... and tarnished and sullied it in two miserable seasons of 'big boy' football.
1) Losing to Colorado and 4-5 in their conference debut.
2) Losing to a WAC team (USU) and going 3-6 in their conference. (from an arrogant BCS conference Ute point of view)
And now the Ute arrogance continues even in their first non-post season in years.
"The (Ute) beatings will continue until morale (and humility) improves."
Congrats to the USU Aggies (THE WAC team) for their great season and winning the Idaho Famous Potato Bowl !!!
Spokane Ute,
Feeling a little bitter today? Get over yourself. BYU does not need Utah. They prefer Notre Dame and the likes. Ejnoy the bowl season. BYU has been down for a couple of years but still get a bowl. Utah is supposed to be this great PAC 10.2 powerhouse and yet they sit at home. HUH! What is Utah's powerhouse Sagarin rating? I can't hear you!!
@ Down Under
What do you think Utah and BYU's record be if they switched schedules?
@Duckhunter
It was you that said "overwhelmingly so". I never said that in regard to any sport. I'd simply say Utah has the upper hand in football right now just as BYU has the upper hand in basketball ... neither is overwhelming.
But I'm with you 100% in almost all other sports, this is exactly why the U is now building new facilities and doing all they can to get those sports up and competing at a better level. Let's be honest, the U never had the funding that BYU had to dump into these other programs ... until now. So while it's going to be an uphill battle competing in the Pac-12, I believe we'll see Utah faring very well against the rest of the country in these other sports in the not so distant future.
@ DownUnder
No, I feel fine actually, but thanks for asking. Get over myself? What in the world is that supposed to mean? Utah doesn't need BYU, or vice versa. I guess I'd be bitter too, if I live in Pulman. LOL
Two For Flinching:
"What do you think Utah and BYU's record be if they switched schedules?"
Phil Steele just recently released his 2012 Final SOS ratings. Utah's was #40. The Y's was #76. With a #76 SOS, the cougars could only muster 7-wins. The Y also LOST to the Utes; demonstrating they're not yet up to our level. In addition, vs. common opponents, the beat Wash. St. by fewer points, and lost to Ore. St. by more. Essentially, their only advantage was a flukey 3-pt win at LES vs. USU.
And YES, it WAS flukish. Just look at their common opponents vs. Utah St...
They went 2-2 vs. Utah, SJSU, Idaho, and NMSU, whereas USU went 4-0. USU also outscored those opponents by 99-pts, whereas the Y outscored them by 66. Edge: USU.
So if a 7-5 record is all they could muster vs. a schedule nearly twice as easy as the U's, and they couldn't beat the U, and apart from one flukish win over State, couldn't perform at their big brother's level, it stands to reason that had they played Utah's schedule, they'd have won no more than 4. Possibly 3.
