The Homeless Shelters throughout the country are so very grateful for any assistance. They are happy to have donations of food, warm clothing, and some Christmas goodies.
During this Christmas season, please be generous. Families sharing this experience plants seeds of love and caring for others.
One thing I'd like to touch on is referring Vets to the VA. Many don't want to go that direction even in dire need because of past experiences. Try the VA again. They've improved substantially and really are doing well by the veterans. Give it a try, and give life another chance.
One thing I've noticed here in Salt Lake, to a greater degree than other major cities, is the number of panhandling, such as on the curbs and freeway ramps. Some could be in genuine need, some not, but for the sake of those in need, what can we do in a sustainable way to offer an alternative path than begging until death by accident or exposure? Not everyone is poor or desperate by choice.
