Interesting. Byu had 16 personal fouls and Utah had 21 called against them. Does your comment really make sense?

I was at the game and the cougs looked soft even after being well rested.

    Deduct

"rebuilding"? Arguably your best post player ever in Davies with Haws and you are now "rebuilding"?

    lol

    Davey S,
The programs are even? Now that's a laugh. Just because the Utes can get up for their biggest game of the year and at the same time BYU was looking past the Utes does not make them equal. The refs let way too much go. As it was many of the Utes were in foul trouble and most of them would have fouled out at halftime had the game been called like a college game and not an NBA game. That said I still have to give props to the Utes for bringing their A game. I believe they will be better than most of us thought, but still the cellar dwellers in the PAC 10.2.

"Had the Utes shot over BYU's zone as well as they did against Boise..."

"If this game were played in the Huntsman Center..."

Woulda, coulda, shoulda's are nothing but excuses for DIDN'T.

The Utes aren't going to shoot 66% from 3 every night and the Utes aren't going to be able to play every game at home, so all that rationalizing another loss proves is that the once "mighty" Utes still aren't good enough to beat a rebuilding BYU team.

The Utes took a gamble that they could come in and play physical as their only chance to win. The gamble paid off because the officials didn't call the fouls. If the refs had called this one close from the beginning, Utah wouldn't have had a chance with the gimmicky defense.

BTW, Stevie Wonder doesn't try to play basketball, so Carlino shouldn't be judged by what the singer could do on the hardwoods.

Lots of if's and but's. Fact is the U lost.

If Carlino can continue to shoot well and Haws gets back on track it'll open up the middle for Davies. The success of this season depends upon getting positive production from the point guard position.

Every ute traveled when they got the ball. Do they teach that in the 10.2?

Good for Carlino, we Cougar fans have been waiting all year for this. However, I am very concerned about some of the other perimeter players on the the team, most noticeable Brock Zylstra. He has been down right terrible this year. He shoots too much and shoots a terrible percentage, he has way to much experience to be playing this badly. I don't know what is wrong with him, but the Cougars may need to look at replacing him in the lineup. I am very excited about next years recruiting class though, the Cougars are just gonna get better next year, and if by the chance BYU gets Jabari, look out NCAA the Cougars will make some big time noise.

Let me rephrase... Utes best game in the MC

As for the rest of your season... I don't care.

@ Dave S. - No....I don't think so. This is the best Utah team in a long time, while this is the worst BYU has played for years, and Utah still couldn't win. Plus BYU has an incredible recruiting class coming in. As a program, BYU is still far, far ahead of Utah. Just look at the recruiting.

That was an awesome game. Glad BYU got the W but I was surprised at how good Utah's bigs were. BYU needs to get some meat on their bigs so they don't get pushed around!

Nice game Cougars. You showed incredible toughness and made some great plays to earn this game. Sweet victory in many, many ways!

"Utes best game and despite BYU's lack luster performance Cougars get the win."

Not even close to Utah's best game. Utah's best game was earlier in the week against Boise State. Had the Utes shot over BYU's zone as well as they did against Boise it would have been closer to a 20 point victory for Utah. Give BYU credit for playing a good zone in the second half and getting a hand in the face of Ute shooters. Conversely, you ought to give Ute defenders credit for "BYU's lack luster performance" but we all know you won't.
Two notes ... BYU had the more rested legs after not playing USU, whereas Utah played a talented Boise State team earlier in the week. Secondly, Marriott Center. Cougars deserve the hard fought victory, but I think we all know Utah's coaching staff has Utah back on the right track and this could very likely have resulted in a Utah win if played at the JMHC. BYU will have a lot of new and returning talent next year, but I like Utah's chances of coming out on top.

Dave S. nothing to be afraid of yet...I'm not sure the hack attack is going to work again for Utah. They still don't match with BYU. Their only chance was to hope the refs would let the game be physical.

    @Dave S

We would be concerned, but our best recruiting class ever is coming in...not including the chance of getting Jabari Parker. Utah looked better, but BYU will be a much better team in the next couple of years.

BYU was out coached in the first half and Utah was out coached in the second half. Utah can cover Davies and Hawes, but not the entire team. The second half and the final score says it all.

Not just Carlino, free throws by Haws helped win the game.

    Good rival game.

Face to Cougar fans the gap between the programs is now about even I would say. If this game were played in the Huntsman Center it wouldn't have even been close. As it was, the Utes still for almost the entire game until the very end.

Be afraid of the future Ute teams Cougars be very afraid!!!

Playing down to the competition often happens. Its time this team either gels or starts to prepare for next years top ten recruiting class.

Was at the game--very enjoyable. I am very impressed with Utah (especially 1) size, 2) point guard, and 3) Loveridge), and feel they're back on a road that will lead to success. Their bigs are also impressive, and will give many teams fits. They even made their free throws (which we struggled with and, if we don't turn that around, will lose us some close games). And I saw some of the sweetest, long-distance bounce passes for lay-ups I've seen in a long time. Carlino's, if he's on, is fantastic. I love how he pushes the ball, often leading to easy baskets. Good luck, Utah. Go COUGS!

To the credit of the Utes they played above expectations but BYU also played down.

They had both Davies and Haws neutralized for most of the game and the open man was just banging the rim. I did not lose hope and at the half the adjustments made the difference.

Good to see Carlino finally find the bucket. Those two back to back 3s changed the momentum of the game.

Utes best game and despite BYU's lack luster performance Cougars get the win.

Nothing like a moral victory huh Utes? I will have to say that your team is improved. How much? Well we shall see as conference play begins soon.

ALWAYS nice to beat the Utes, looks like the Utes are definately a improved Team from last year, but they will still struggle in the improved PAC12 this year. Carlino had a break out game finally, the guy found open guys all night, plus started hitting his J. It seems he really gained some confidence.

This could be a great team if everyone settles into a role and steps up when needed as Carlino did tonight. But, Carlino's role needs to be as a pointguard who distributes the ball and steers the offense. He made passes tonight that no one else on the team could make. But, too often he wants to score and is not satisfied with assists.

Someone sure needed to step up. Utah's defensive game plan had the Cougs in a pickle. Congrats to Matt.
