UPDATE THURSDAY 10:20am
Butch Jones after accepting the $13.5 million, 5/year offer to become the head football coach at Colorado later claimed he didn't accept the offer, then this morning officially turned down Colorado. I see the sudden opening at Wisconsin being the deal breaker. What this means is that Bronco and Gary Anderson, the other mentioned cantidates will be contacted or their agents will be contacted about the job.

To BYUalum, I agree that Bronco Mendenhall is a good man and he is a good example for his players. I also feel that the brethern in the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve are probably even greater men and even better examples. However, I don't want any of those 15 great men named as head football coach at BYU. I think Bronco would make a great mission president, but he has done a terrible job coaching this year. The BYU football program deserves someone who can actually get victories that should come from the talent he can put on the field. Bronco did a terrible job at that this year.

I'm extremely pleased with the way Bronco runs the program and BYU. Has he made a few mistakes? Yes. But every coach makes miscalls and has some poor decisions on their records. Overall Bronco handles the Cougar Football program with decipline and class. It would be difficult to find someone else that could do a better job. His win-loss percentage is one that many other schools would love to have.

I'm hoping he stays at the Y as long as possible!

BYU fans calling for Bronco's head should reflect back just a few years to remember the dumpster fire Bronco inherited from Crowton and how Bronco is responsible for returning the BYU football program back to respectability.

A much as some like to complain about how awful this season turned out to be, just remember, BYU was only four plays away from being 11-1 and a very likely berth in the Orange Bowl.

Instead of seeking the greener grass on the other side of the fence, BYU fans should be grateful for what they have and hopeful that with just a few minor tweaks, things could be even better in the future.

We are very lucky to have a man of such integrity as the coach at BYU. I'll even deal with his occasionaly mistakes as a HC when I sit down on Monday morning to QB. Bronco is one of the few coaches in the NCAA I would pick for my son to play for, regardless of his win-loss record.

Sports writers make up stories to hopefully get reactions just to make up more stories. Bronco is focused as he should be. Go Cougs and sports writers go home.

Bronco is a great fit at BYU and a fantastic coach. I'm glad to hear that he plans to stick around a while longer.

Why does anybody believe these talking heads on the sports news? They insisted that Bronco was in negotiations with Colorado when he says knew nothing about it. This seems to happen a lot and nobody ever calls them on it. Why not start a new rumor saying that Bronco is going to be Secretary of State and quote me as your secret source?

Bronco lives in his own little world. A world in which the Y is always on the verge of being national champions, a world where the best team doesn't always and a world where fans are irrelevant.

Bronco just dug his own grave in my opinion. He does not even want to be the head coach. No wonder he makes awful decisions, he lives in a bubble! Sign the petition to get him fired ASAP so we can get a coach that actually WANTS to be our coach. The petition is called dump bronco, like the page and sign the petition!

It's interesting that a person "familiar with the decision" told the press on Thursday that Butch Jones had rejected an offer to become the Buffaloes' next coach. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because Jones hadn't publicly revealed his decision to stay at the University of Cincinnati.

Sounds like Colorado may have "leaked" the initial list of "viable" candidates to make it seem like there was a lot of interest in that dumpster fire of a program. Michael Bohn, the AD who fired Brown, trashed his own program during the news conference to announce the firing. Then, last night, he quickly tweeted out a denial that Jones had accepted the job after initially announcing it was a done deal.

Bronco hasn't been contacted?

Shocking.

Coach Edwards used to always say that he kept his golf clubs in his car trunk and that if he ever came out of his office and found himself headed for the car instead of the practice field, it would be time to hang up the cleats. It took a good long time, and I have a feeling it may be like that for Coach Mendenhall.
At least, I hope so.

"Bronco hasn't been contacted?... LOL"

Who, really, would want to be contacted by an AD who trashed his own program during the presseer to announce the firing the previous coach?

What's really laughable is watching Utah fans gagging and choking while they're being force-fed this "new rival" of theirs.

btw, your screen name is a little dated; shouldn't it be 42-35?

How does it feel to be 0-1 against the WAC this season?

Or 1-6 lifetime versus the YMCA?

It's good to see you back. We've missed your thoughtful questions and civility.

So Bronco says he will be at BYU for as long as he is supposed to and as long as he thinks he is progressing. I guess Bronco is more powerful than Holmoe. Should he not be saying that I will be at BYU so long as I have the support of the administration? Did Bronco fire Holmoe? If I was the AD and read that statement from Bronco, I would sit down and have a little chit chat with the boy.

Really? It appears that both San Jose St. and Utah own BYU.
Sorry bud. Lobbing lame commments like that won't fly while you also lose to ranked teams when you play them each year.

Why would he leave? He has the support of the most arrogant fan base in all the land.
